Since I moved back to town to a small apartment I have been thinning out my possessions.
It was tough but I managed to get rid of one storage tub full of Halloween stuff.

I'm all set. I just have to tidy up the house a little, replace a bulb in one of my plastic jack o'lanterns, and carve some real ones.

I am well-stocked on pumpkins, at least. I had bought one at the grocery store, but then a local home & garden center had a 5-for-$10 sale. I asked if I could buy, say, two for $4, or 3 for $6, but they said, no, to get the deal you have to purchase five for ten. So I picked out five pumpkins. Four of them are large, orange pumpkins, which originally sold for $7. The fifth is a small, flat, brownish "fairy tale" pumpkin, which would have sold for $6. I love its shape but probably won't carve it. I may hollow it out at some point to hold a candle or a flower arrangement.
Most years I purchase a white "ghost" pumpkin and carve it like a skull, but the white ones weren't included in this 5-for-10 sale, and I can't justify buying yet another pumpkin. So I guess I will just have to make myself content with the fairy tale pumpkin as my "different" one this year.

I'm going to sh op for my pumpkins tomorrow, and I have a load of firewood comming on Saturday. Two face chords of mixed hard wood. WOOHOO!! I'll be good for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Winter season.

Murf, here's what I plan on doing with my fairy tale pumpkins...

If I have time, give them a faux mercury glass look. Click on the image to see how to do it. Scroll down.

As much as I like silver I would pant those copper gold or bronze.

House is looking good, but I'm ashamed to say, aside from some (sadly un-carved) pumpkins and mums on the front porch I've neglected to decorate outdoors. Things could become tricky on that front, as well, as I'll be tied up this weekend, and it appears Hurricane Sandy is marching towards us with gale-force winds and heavy rains in tow. Needless to say, I'm a little weary my decorations may end up in another county...

Lovely suggestion for the fairy tale pumpkin, Nevermore!
Big Guh, I don't blame you for not wanting to lose your decorations in the storm! I hope it doesn't hit you as hard as the weathermen say it might.

You and me, both! I have this mental image of looking out my window early next week and seeing ghosts, black cats, witches, and pumpkins soaring through the air. Don't get me wrong, I've always thought it'd be cool to peer up toward the moon on halloween to see the silhouette of witch upon her broom, or to spy a floating ghost while looking down a jack o lantern lit street, so I may get my wish...but ideally, I'd witness these spectacles under (super)naturally occurring, controlled conditions. I'd think a pumpkin or ghost prop may pack the potential for heavy damage riding upon heavy winds! I might just have one come crashing through my window, now that would make for a memorable Halloween!
Thank goodness those light, inflatable decorations are now so popular. They'll fly with the wind, but if they strike my house, my car, or hell, me, no harm done!

Yesterday I bought 4 pumpkins, and I am going to carve one tomorrow night, light a fire in my fire place, and watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and a couple of old horror classics.

Sounds like a relaxing, festive evening, Mike. Nothing like that crisp autumn air. Makes the warmth of the crackling fire even better.

Not a pity party just explaining, Moms cancer has had us fighting to keep spirits up. She actually was diagnosed in breast cancer awareness month. BUT....
We are going to watch Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown followed by Garfields Halloween Adventure. Then we're giving out dum dum pops and tootsie rolls to the monsters and princesses. And then we're going to have a special meal. In the event that MAYBE this is her final Halloween.
