PROVIDENCE, R.I.â€â€A Rhode Island lawmaker has filed a bill that would make Halloween in the state the last Saturday of October -- no matter what day the 31st falls on.
State Rep. Donald Lally Jr. tells The Providence Journal that he filed the bill at the request of a constituent who thought it would help people and businesses.

That would be better for business, but Halloween is tied to the cycles of the planet; universe even.
I celebrate Halloween all year long but October 31st is 'the' day.

I use to like it when Halloween fell on a Friday. That way I could eat candy while watching TV Saturday morning.
I could see the practical aspect of it because it would mean that kids would have the day off, but all that's going to do is to lead to restless kids during the day. At least when it falls during the week the kids can go to school during the day. And fewer and fewer adults are getting Saturdays off nowadays. It would also mean that more adults would go out on Halloween night thus not being home to give out candy.

Part of me would love it if Halloween was on Saturday ever year, but the traditionalist in me fights it tooth and nail. I'm afraid I'm going to hve to go with my traditionalist insincts here. Perhaps I'm a "stick in the mud," or "unprogressive," but Halloween has allway been celebrated on the 31st for my whole life, and I don't like change.
Now one change that I could actualy live with, and even like, would be if they made Halloween a leagal national holiday, and if they replaced Columbus Day with Halloween as that leagal holiday, I would shed no tears. It would be nice if everyone could get a day off from work and school to celebrate which IMHO is the best day and night of the year.

I don't suppose it's a big deal, but as a traditionalist, I much prefer that ToT be on the 31st of October. That's the way we allways did it when I was still TOTing. I suppose the younger people like the idea of having the entire day to ToT, but as I said, there's a lot to be said for tradition, especialy on Halloween. And Halloween IS very much a traditional holiday. Many don't see it that way, but truth be told, it's almost as traditional as Christmas. Christmas still has Halloween beat for tradition, but not by much.

Like I said. Having ToT or Halloween on a pre selected day for the sake of convenience may be more sensible, but it's not tradition. Halloween is one of the tiny handful of traditions that haven't been changed beyond all recognition by my family. So as much as I would like to see the kids have a chance for plenty of ToT fun and candy, I still think Halloween and all the traditions and celebrations that go with Halloween should be on the 31st, with the entire month of october being the Halloween season.

Aww, buff.... how about seeing more TOTers for the full month of October???? It's good idea!!

But, the problem is.... we all don't have money to buy and give out more candies.

I often coordinate purchasing my ToT candy with my pay days. It can be hard to come up with Halloween candy money, especialy when you have a lot of ToTers, but if it's possible you can put aside a little bit aside in August and September, and then on the payday in October that you have the least ammount of bills to pay, you can go out and stock up on your Halloween candy. That's how I usualy do it. Lately, though, I've ben bringing some of that candy to work on the 2nd of November, because while I still do get a lot of ToTers, I don't get as many as I use to get when I first moved in.

Last year on Halloween, I only got a very few leftover candies. I remember a few years ago there were no leftover candies, so when we're out of candies then we had to turn off the lights around 7:45 pm.
