Halloween Discussion Forums, Costumes, Horror!

I have a deep connection to Halloween because of experiences for the holiday in my early childhood in the 1960's. I feel I had the privilege to experience Halloween in the early twilight of its golden age and I am haunted by its glow to this day. Are there any kindred spirits in the Boston area who feel the same way? I have an annual old-fashioned Halloween party at my home to try to recapture some of the magic of the past,. Although I have experienced many contemprary Halloween parties, I would love to know others who try to capture the innocence and wonder of the past as I do.

It can either be very hard or very easy to recapture that magical essence, and it all depends on how your mind is alligned at the moment you're trying. Try too hard and nada, don't try hard enough cause you're bummed about something and nada. But when you get it, man that's the ticket.

I'm in the Boston area but I'm not sure what you mean by 'Golden Age'. Do you mean because it was directed more towards children and a gentler type of horror?

Yeah, I kinda think it's coming into a second golden age now. It's more popular than ever, and once the recession breaks, I think it's gonna have a huge year!

Yes, by Golden Age I mean the 1950's when Halloween was the "Children's Holiday". Good point :0). I am not into "Horror" at all. I love "Old Halloween" which I am sure you know what I mean. In the 1970's this Halloween vanished. I mourned its passing and had incredible Halloween dreams for many years and all but neglected the actual holiday. A few years ago I realized that I could try to recreate "Old Halloween" through artifacts and memories and now I look forward to celebrating Halloween again. Does anone feel the same?

I believe there was a lot of joy in innocense back then. No worries about all of the commonly evil things we have to worry about now. Apple pie kids more often than not wearing a homemade costume. Neighbors you could trust giving out homemade treats with poison in them. That's just my guess.
