Something someone said the other day....

Post by TheHallow1 » Sat Apr 10, 2010 4:31 pm

It was one of the wisest things I've heard in a while. He said, "The question isn't 'What is the meaning of life?' but 'What is the meaning of YOUR life?'" It makes sense since life fas no universal meaning. It just depends on who you ask.

I think it's absolutely true, and even while some would argue that there is indeed a universal purpose to life and human existence, the fact that those who hold that point of view can't agree on what the universal purpose actually is seems further evidence that each individual must define for him or herself the purpose of life, even if, when making that subjective evaluation, they choose to perceive it as objective truth.

It is an empowering philosophy, because it gives you a sense of control over what at times seems a chaotic existence, but it also assigns a heavy burden of personal responsibility for the quality of your life. It means you can't blame fate, or a higher power, or luck, or other people if your life isn't what you want it to be, but also keeps you from feeling like a helpless pawn if things aren't going as you wish they were.

The answer to life, the universe and everything is 42.
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

I'm both shocked and appalled that a clever joke was completely ruined by the fact that nobody here has seen The Dark Crystal (Spooky excepted... Bonus points if you know what those creatures were called!!). :x You should all be ashamed of yourselves!! Especially those of you in your thirties, or those of you with children!!! Get thee to a rental shop!!! :x

How I long for the days before excessive CGI destroyed the simple pleasures of Jim Henson puppetry..... :?

Oops sorry, I AM in my thirties and do have kids but have NEVER seen that movie! I have seen Labyrinth and is one of my favorite movies, as a matter of fact, my kids are watching it as we speak. Hey I may watch The Dark Crystal in the near future so maybe I will get your joke! I think I can get it on Netflix....I'm totally ashamed Mac just cuz you said I should be

If you and your kids like Labyrinth, then you definitely ought to see The Dark Crystal. I admit, it lacks the charm of David Bowie and his wild 80's hair, but it has much of the same magical feel to it. It was one of the first movies, if not the first, I ever saw.

Yeah, David Bowie OWNED that movie, he is very cool and I loved his hair, the tights not so much because he's so skinny. The Dark Crystal is on Netflix so I will definitely watch it.
