Home Owners Associations are communist associations that make rules and regulations governing the upkeep and appearance of a 'community' that chooses to enact one.
They moved beyond merely maintaining the common grounds to more insidious rulings like 'no holiday decorations on your house', 'only these colors approved for your building', individual thoughts are strictly verboten!!'...okay I made that last one up but you get my drift.

I used to live in that kid of area, but they weren't hard on us about our decorations for the holidays.

I had know idea!!! We don't have that where I live. Sounds like pulling someone's teeth, painful!!!
