Same situation over here in England.
I usually get my candy in towards the end of September, as soon as the supermarket starts getting it in.

That's usualy the best stratigy. Candy does keep pretty good, too all though I wouldn't want to eat a piece of candy that was like a yar old, but as long as it doesn't get really hot where you store your candy, you should be able to get it in September, and it should keep until the 'big day.'
One year, I bought 5 bags of Kraft Karmels to give out as ToTs, and we had a late "Indian Summer" heat spell. My air was turned off, and it got very hot in my house, and the karmels melted. Fortunately I found out about it around mid October, but I did end up having to get fresh candy for ToT.
I actualy did home made Taffy Apples with the ruined karmels, and they turne dout pretty good. My grand nieces loved them.

I might do that again this Halloween, but I have two vehicle payments, so I have to watch the money. I'll probably end up baking a batch of two of orange chocolate chip cookies, and have two different kinds of candy to hand out for ToT and be done with it. Of course, I do plan to have a weenie roast in the livingroom fire place, too. The little ones love to do that, and I usualy have a scary movie playing while we do it.

Speaking of which; I ordered 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' and the Garfield holidays DVD's.
The 'Wicked' one should be here by Friday but the Garfield is being delivered post so...who knows.
