Re: Help!
I would watch the movies and decorate the house anyways...I won't let anyone dampen my Halloween spirit. It's too important to me...and I know what that feels like Spooky...I have similar issues but I enjoy it anyway and in spite of that person(s).
They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of kings and queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
Its heaven and hell, oh well
I am Vengeance...I am the Night!
I swear to God...[Batman]SWEAR to Me!!

Try to remember what you like about the season.
I grew up in Florida, no change of seasons, no cool weather, not decorating for any holiday except Christmas. I only remember one Halloween pumpkin.
Now, as an adult, I live in Tennessee, trees that are a beautiful quilt of Autumn color, the smell of wood stoves on a cool night as I walk through the crunching leaves. Big fat orange pumpkins sitting on the porch just waiting to get voice.
That is what I love best. I embraced Halloween as just a part and a celebration of Fall! No committment or obligations, no power shopping, no expectations. Just fun.
Just remember what you really love about Halloween. You'll find it again.

Re: Help!
I grew up in and STILL live in Florida. And it STILL sucks. My mom was a big believer of all things fun and festive so I always had the best costumes and the coolest pumpkins, but it's definitely hard to get into the spirit sometimes. I actually went through about 3 months (during the off season) where I organized all my Halloween items and struggled with selling them all and washing my hands of all this foolishness. But something stopped me and I'm glad it did.shanda wrote: I grew up in Florida, no change of seasons, no cool weather, not decorating for any holiday except Christmas. My tastes have changed a lot this year from previous Halloweens and I find my spirit lacking even when I do things I've done every year since I was a kid. So I've learned to try new things to celebrate the season. I've tried new recipes with fall time ingredients, I've gone to festivals and events I've never been to before and I challenge myself to learn something new about my favorite holiday every year. It reminds me of why I fell in love with Halloween in the first place and it gives me something to talk about with my friends.

this is what I do too.ilovemichaelmyers wrote:Go hang out in a graveyard at night, that will get you in the mood.
I find that almost every year, I spend all spring/summer wishing for Halloween to hurry up, and then as soon as it's fall I have so much going on I don't take the time to enjoy it.
Just go for a walk in the fallen leaves, seeing other peoples decorations usually puts me back into Halloween mode
