I am growing mini pumpkins. I have great vines and lots of flowers, but no pumpkins yet.

I did some research and found out the male flowers bloom first, dying after only a day. Then later on in the season the female flowers bloom, producing fruit.

A few facts I did not know.

I do not buy my pumpkins until the last weekend in Sept. A tradition. Then we go again middle of Oct. because we have either cut the ones we had, or they rotted.

That happens to me every year. I get beautiful vines, leaves and blossoms, but when the pumpkins get to be about the size of straw berries, the rabbits and squirls make short work of them, and all I'm left with by nmid July is a patch of dirt. And those darn critters do a pretty good job of defoliating my garden.

I've got one growing in my garden...does that count? Oh and my mom gave me a gourd that looks like a miniature pumpkin, or a "jack be little." I suppose that might count. lol.

DemonSlayer, if you got one decent pumpking to carve into a jack o'lantern and a jack-be-little, you are doing better then I am. I allways end up buying pumpkins because as I said before, Peter Cottintale and Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater are the same guy. When I was about 9 years old, I actualy managed to get one pumpkin. It was elongated, so we carved it to look like a rat, and placed large black ears made out of construction paper. But that was it. One pumpkin. We had to buy the rest of our pumpkins at the farm stand on the corner of 111th and Central Park.

I popped out to Safeway this morning to get buttermilk for Pancake Sunday, and they had a big bin of wee mini-pumpkins for seventy-nine cents a piece. I walked by it, and was halfway in the door, when my feet came to a screeching halt, and then went in reverse. I couldn't resist. I bought a wee pumpkin today. :)

Sounds like you guys have it all planned out. I will probably pick up a couple of jack-be-littles when they are out, but I usualy save them for Thanksgiving after Halloween is over.

I don't know, I think the jack be littles work great for Halloween. In fact, my mom gave me two more that are small enough for my miniature house. The house is a lot of fun, and I put some Halloween decorations on it, but it needs to be fixed up when I get some spare time and money. I've already got furniture for it though, and it's fun to decorate for Halloween and Christmas.
If they last through Thanksgiving and I don't decide to draw little jack o' lantern faces on them with a marker, I'll probably leave them out for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I have a couple of little fake pumpkins that come out in Halloween and are usually some of the last decorations to go since they work so good for Thanksgiving, I wait to put them away until then.
I'll be grateful if I get one pumpkin out of the whole mess. But I was hoping for more so I could share the Halloween spirit with members of my family. :(

That's one of my fondest dreams, too. I would love to invite the little ones over to my own pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin for their Halloween fun. At is turns out, I'll have to settle for a weenie roast in the living room when they come to my town for Trick or Treat.

Someone in my office just handed me a pumpkin pie.

See the condensation? That's from having just recently come out of the bakery oven.

Now I just gotta find me some Reddi-whip!
