Re: Halloween 2010 on Sunday
In the South, TOTing is usually not done on a Sunday. When Halloween falls on Sun., I am very accustomed to having the celebration the Saturday before. However, the last time it happened, our local authorities refused to choose. They left it up to each neighborhood. That worked out great for us, because we TOTed twice! On Saturday night we went to a neighborhood where we knew a ton of people, but don't live. Then on Sunday, we did our usual rounds and ended up in the historic district down on Main Street. So I think people will TOT on Sunday around here if given a chance. If the authorities say, Do it on Saturday, then everyone will.
I really prefer TOTing on the 31rst, whenever it falls, but moving Sunday to Saturday is acceptable to me.
Our Dept. of Parks & Recreation will hold the city-wide bash on the nearest weekend. That means that, this year, they'll be doing it on the 29th & 30th, perhaps interfering with TOT. But usually TOT is for the neighborhoods and isn't connected to the civic celebration.

Re: Halloween 2010 on Sunday
The only reason I care is that I'd much rather celebrate Halloween on October thirty first. Yeah, we can still do that, but trick or treating will be held the day before. Sorry, but to me, that sucks. It's all about not wanting to offend those who go to church on Sunday. That makes no sense. I'm not going to criticize anyones faith, but if someone believes Halloween is against their religion, what difference does it make what day it's held on?

Keep in mind that Sunday is special to the Mormons.Samhain wrote:If someone believes Halloween is against their religion, what difference does it make what day it's held on?

What I'm saying is that it makes no sense for religious people to think that it's okay to celebrate Halloween on Saturday, but not Sunday. If the idea of Halloween runs contrary to their beliefs, what difference does it make on what day it is celebrated?

Re: Halloween 2010 on Sunday
I agree. It's just so freaking wrong for TOTing to be on a Saturday, because of some people's beliefs!

Re: Halloween 2010 on Sunday
You know what my real problem with this is?
I can't get drunk two days in a row.
At the age of 41, I just can't handle it.
Most of my friends who come to our party are Halloween fans, but not fanatics like I am. They'll be looking to have a good time on Saturday.
I guess I could just go with that and enjoy a quiet evening watching horror movies on Sunday while I nurse a hangover...
And no, I'm not a lush.
I drink maybe four or five days a year on special occasions.
Halloween is one of them.

Re: Halloween 2010 on Sunday
I'm a purist and really prefer to celebrate on the day itself (I've never had much use for Presidents' Day, either, since I think most people today no longer know exactly when Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays really fall because of it). However, I bow to social custom when the people all around me insist on celebrating Halloween on Saturday rather than Sunday. To me, Halloween is not about devil-worship, but apparently many people do think that it is. I can't think of any other reason why so many would object to its observance on Sunday, which is the sabbath for many sects and denominations.

But the point is that most of our friends will want to have the party on Saturday, anyway. Since trick or treating will be held that day, they'll fully expect that the whole thing will be celebrated on Saturday as well.
Se' la vie.

With all this Halloween 2010 talk.... no worries! If we only get very small TOT-ers till 8 pm, or whenever it is over... then we will have small adult party till midnight. After the Halloween party is over, me and my gf will watch "Trick 'R Treat" movie.
