I caught up on Who do You Think You Are? over the weekend. I love that show but it kinda bums me out that I can't research my past as extensively as the actors featured on the show. It inspires me to look, but it's not like I can just hop on a plane and head wherever in Europe to check records or hire experts to do it for me like they do on that show. It is impressive what some of these people find though.

I enjoy that show, too.

One of my hobbies is writing down all the family stories my mother told me. She was a nearly inexhaustible font of these stories, and I fear I may be the last one left alive who remembers them. I'm not doing the nitty-gritty of genealogical research, but if anybody ever does, I hope they can read my stories and understand a little more about who everybody was.

I have always enjoyed history, but I think people who are not so interested in history might find it more meaningful if they could relate it to previous generations of their own families.

Now that Radcliffe has opened his mouth, I won't go see this movie. Too bad, it looked rather interesting. I refuse to support those that insult my intelligence or demean my beliefs.

If you want to know what I am talking about, do a search and find out for yourself. You may not think it is a big deal, but to a lot of people, it is.

Oh, wow, now you've really got me curious. I'm going to have to go a-Googling, I suppose.

I'm not sure what this is referring to and I don't really feel like looking it up, but most of Hollywood is offensive in some way or another. Doesn't really stop me from seeing movies because at the end of the day, the rest of us can be just as offensive. We just don't have a microphone in front of us when we are.

thers no context here to "google", what was something he said, who did he say it to, what was it in reference to? I need something to put in the search bar, simply "Daniel Radcliffe" brings up so much, adding "rant" to that doesnt help, what is it he said that upset you?

I Googled "Daniel Radcliffe political opinions" and came up with some stuff. He doesn't share my views on things, obviously, but I am sort of with Pumpkin on this. If I refused to see movies made by people whose political beliefs conflicted with my own, I would be left with a very short list of movies to watch! As long as the film itself is not political, I can generally give them their right to their own opinions.

The stuff I came up with (there could be more) had to do with his support of gay marriage (although he claims he is not gay, and I believe him). Also he said he is not religious, is in fact an atheist, so he is easily offended by the religious right. (I already knew he was an atheist because my daughter had Googled some stuff about him a while back. I believe he is ethnically Jewish, but doesn't follow that religion). He apparently is dismayed by some GOP political candidates who have spoken against gay rights, specifically gay marriage.

In general I do not think it is wise for an actor/singer/whatever to go to a foreign country and start making proclamations about their politics. If Radcliffe cannot vote here, I don't think it is smart of him to speak publicly about our political scene. Otherwise, though, I think he is a pretty predictable product of his milieu. He has grown up in theater and acting, primarily in England, where the theatrical community is perhaps even farther to the left than ours is. If his parents were non-practicing Jews, he probably hasn't had any religious training at all. He has hardly had a chance to be other than he is. Perhaps as he lives and learns he will revise some of his opinions. Perhaps not.
