Re: What Halloween candy do you hate the most?
This reminds me of the lady who lived down the street from my mom's aunt. This woman baked these cookies, which were more like a donut, with vanilla or chocolate icing on them. I heard they tasted good, but my aunt ended up finding cat hair (don't know how many hairs or if it was just one hair) in one of the batches and had to throw them away. My mom's aunt didn't want to hurt her neighbor's feelings, so she just graciously accepted the cookies whenever the lady gave her some.shanda wrote: I got a cupcake from a lady who's house smelled like cat pee once. I wasn't allowed to eat it, not that I wanted too. Just a random memory.

I remember those peanut butter "kisses," too. If you get a nice fresh one, they actualy taste pretty good, but I've found it impossible to find any that arent stale. Jelly beans and most hard candy are not my personal favs, but I do like Butter Scotch and Peppermint.
I CANT STAND Starbursts, but they make great projectiles. I use to buy a couple of packs of them and use a wrist rocked to launch them at kids I didn't like, namely the kids that would pelt me with Starbursts.

I swear if someone gives me taffy, I will take it out of the package, stretch it out, wrap it around their neck and shove toothpicks in their eyeballs.

I always hated getting Milky Ways. Still don't like the taste of it, I also didn't like getting those sugar straws.

I really didn't like chocolate covered cherry, but my gf loves it!
Re: What Halloween candy do you hate the most?
There is not any Halloween candy my kids will turn away. They sort it out and use it like cash. They barter.
By the time Thanksgiving rolls around, all that is left is the hard candy, suckers, and gummy things.
Of course, Mom gets to charge ToT tax. I get first pick out of the bag! My payment for taking them.

Ha! TOT tax. I like that.
I dislike candy corn, but my husband loves it. I'm not crazy about popcorn balls, and I won't eat licorice. Don't care for Tootsie Rolls.
I love Starbursts and gummies.
I love chocolate--that is primo.
I like good hard candy, dislike the cheap stuff.
There have been years when I handed out apples and caramels. Not caramel apples, just apples along with the caramel candies. I like giving out fruit, and the kids seem to like it, too. Some years I will hand out the treat-sized microwavable popcorn pouches with caramels. I won't hand out anything I don't like to eat myself.

Re: What Halloween candy do you hate the most?
That's a pretty good 'rule of thumg,' and I try to do the same. I give out treats that I, myself, liked to get. Usualy it will be bite sized Nestles Crunch, Butter Fingers, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups or Bite Sized Snickers.
I LOVED getting pop corn balls, and back in 'the day,' we had a neighbor who made the best I've ever tasted from scratch. I also like Tootsie Rolls, and again, back in 'the day,' they had this carmel lolly pop called a "Slow Poke." It came wrapped in a yellow wrapper with the word "Slow Poke" printed on it. It was just a piece of hard carmel on a stick. Perhaps some of you in my age group may remember the comercial for them:
Get yourself a slow poke
slow poke slow poke
Get yourself a Slow Poke,
it lasts a long time.
I use to love those.

Re: What Halloween candy do you hate the most?
Mike, I also hated Slow Poke. Another one was Milk Duds ... way too hard to chew.
