About Halloween's roots

Post by iHaunt » Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:21 am

Anyone know about this Halloween's roots?

Someone stated that Halloween's roots can be traced back to a pagan origin?

Is that true? :?

Not sure about that Halloween, but the one that I observe can be...
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

The way I heard it, a bunch of partying Pagans met a group of praying Christians, and, just like when chocolate met peanut-butter, it was a perfect match! In the spirit of mutual respect and interfaith tolerance, the Pagans and the Christians gathered around a table of pumpkin pie, apple cider, Irn Bru, and Skittles, and after much negotiating they hammered out a list of practices and traditions we all celebrate today.

Yes

Halloween's origins can be, and is, traced back to the Pagan Celts.

I think they prefer to be called "Christiangentially Challenged Gingers". The word "pagan" stirs up too many bad memories of Christopher Plummer.

The story I heard is that Halloween can be traced back to Pre Christian Ireland. It was originaly started by the druids, but I imagine all kinds f cultures had a special "day of the dead" set aside. I don't know how it ended up being October 31st, though. The Catholic Church made it part of the 3 day festival of the dead which we call All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
