Halloween 2010 on Sunday

Post by iHaunt » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:51 pm

So, what do you say that Halloween falls on Sunday in 2010? That can't be good, isn't it?

I know there will be small trick-or-treaters on that night of Sunday. I'd like to hear from some of you who have done in the past when Halloween was on Sunday. ;)

Mormons are big into Halloween, best Halloweens we had were spent in Salt Lake City

The Mormons are strict about the Sabbath. If you ever look at one of those corny Mormon magazines like New Era or The Friend kids are always writing stories about how they missed out on a sweet 16 or a baseball game because it was Sunday.
Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

I doubt the Mormons are as strict about the Sabbath as the Orthadox Jews, but you are correct RDM. Mormons don't even believe in shopping on Sunday, unless it's an emergincy (like, it's the only day you can buy food or medicine) or working on Sunday unless you absolutely have to.
Then again the jews have a different sabbath day, called Shabbat. But their sabbath is the original sabbath on the 7th day. They believe the sabbath begins friday night at sundown until sundown on Saturday. Jews believe the next day begins at Sundown, rather than at Midnight.
Personally the next day begins when I wake up the following morning. :p
In any case, I doubt they'll cancel Halloween just because it's on Sunday because Halloween is usually celebrated at night. Church activities are usually over by 1:00 and that's for Mormons, and Christians. And if you're catholic I believe their mass is on Saturday night. I learned the hard way not to drive by the local catholic church on a Saturday night after work. I must've waited five minutes for people crossing the street at the 4-way stop.
Oye, why can't everyone just agree to go to church on the same day at the same time? :O
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

My only problem with Halloween being on a Sunday is that trick or treating will be held on the Saturday before. I don't like the idea of celebrating it on a day other than Oct 31. Yeah, we could have our party on Sunday, but it's not the same.

The last time Halloween was on a Sunday, they did indeed have trick or treating on Saturday. It was that way in most places around us, too.

Actualy I think it is good, because I don't have to work or take vacation time on Sunday. Last year it was on a Saturday, which IMHO is the best day, but Sunday is a pretty close 2nd. I do have to attend Mass in the morning, but the rest of the day is for Halloween fun and answering the door to TOTers. I will also be taking the following Monday off for All Saints Day.

When Halloween falls on a week day, then it's a school day for the kids and also a school night, so the fun is watered down.

So I love it w hen Halloween falls on a Saturay or a Sunday.

And, at least that means that trick or treating will be 1 day earlier. Meaning getting candy sooner.

When Halloween does fall on a weekday, I do actually prefer to have the celebrations on the following weekend or the weekend before BECAUSE of the whole getting up early the next day thing.
Actually, I think Friday is an ideal Halloween day because you get to celebrate Halloween, and relax for the rest of the weekend and eat candy. :p Of course...I only get sundays off where I work. I want a job with the weekends off...so I'm probably going to look into working on a Doctor's office when I get my degree.
Sunday has always been a bittersweet day for me. Sure, you get the day off, but there's that nagging feeling that it's the last day of the weekend before you have to return to school/work the next day. I'd much rather have Halloween on a Friday.

I think Saturday is the best day for Halloween, most people dont have to go to work so they have all day to get ready, then no work the day after so they can recover from the "festivities".........for the kids they can have all the next day to enjoy their candy and not worry about going to bed right after TRT'ing....For those of us who set up their yards it gives us a whole day to take stuff down and put it away with out rushing.
