Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
bag snatching could be a part of some people's halloween tradition lol like the bullies from Hocus Pocus
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
The last time I went trick or treating was when I was 15. I went with a friend and I didn't realize until the last minute that we were going to be doing that. Luckily, I worked in a costume shop at the time, but most of the good stuff had been picked through. I ended up taking the Elvira costume with the intention of pinning it up in a few places and going as Morticia Addams. My hair is black and at the time it was really long, so it seemed like a good fit. Unfortunately, even with the low cut and the high slit being pinned up to make it more modest, everyone thought I was Elvira! The only person who got it right was my old Belgian neighbor/family friend. It was so cute hearing him call out in his thick French accent, "Wait! Jillian, I know who you're supposed to be!! You're uh, uh, uh, the mother from the Addams family!!"

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
I was 16 the last year I TOTed to collect candy myself. I took some younger neighbor kids out as a cover. Over the years since then I occasionally went to a costume party, but my Halloween celebrations kicked into high gear when I had my own kids. Now my youngest is 14, so I'm not sure if she will TOT or not. If she does, she will likely go with a friend of hers in another neighborhood. I am sure I will costume to hand out the candy, and perhaps I'll sneak away from the house to stroll down the highly-decorated street near us. Even as a child, I never really cared about the candy. I used to feed it to my dog in February. It was the street masquerade, and the license to wander about after dark, that I adored, still do.

Like I said, I wish I had ToTed at least until I was out of Grammer School, but I do have as much fun on the other side of the door now that I'm older.

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
My last official year of legit trick-or-treating was I think 3 years ago (I was 20).
However, my friends and I just like to walk around the neighborhood in our costumes, for the atmosphere/nostalgia I guess.

I stopped when I was 18. My friends and I would just go to a party and drink till we thought we were actually what we dressed up as. My tradition hasn't changed much since.

I'm 18 and I'll stop when I wanna stop.

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
I don't blame you, RDM. I stopped when I was 13, because I fealt so self consience about it, and now that I look back on it, I wish I had kept on ToTing until I was at least out of Grammer School. Heck, I probably could have gotten away with it until I was 18.
However, in my old neighborhood, there was a prevailing attitude that once you were old enough to drive a car, you were too old to ToT on Halloween, and a lot of people wouldn't give you candy if you were, or they thought you were 16. In arm-pit New Lenox, however, college age people ToTed, and it was very common place. I hated that town, but there was that one good thing about it, among 2 or three other good things.

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
I remember one year, a grown man dressed as a child in footie pajamas came TOTing to my house. The group he was with waited at the end of the walkway and thought it was a riot. I was both amused and disturbed at the same time but I gave him a few extra pieces for being bold enough to do it

Re: At What Age Did you Stop Trick or Treating?
I was 14 when I stopped. I did have great fun though going ToTing with my friends.
My boy is 4 years old now. Last year we carried on doing what we had done since he was born - dress him up & take him around our families & friends homes in the afternoon.
This year though we will take him around the local area early evening, getting back for the ToTers. I love being behind the door now though, it's great fun!

That's the way I look at it, too. I have as much fun on the other side of the door, with my vampire fangs, handing out the ToT candy, as I did when I use to go ToTing as a kid.
