Halloween Part 1 For Me Tonight!
I'm super-excited! My first round of Halloween 2009 is tonight! It's a church party with "Trunk-or-Treat"... which I hate (because you always use as much candy/items as you take and hand out because the kids keep coming 'till the candy runs out), but I've decided to make it fun. My husband remembered to put the camera with my stuff-- so *hopefully* I take some photos so I can share 'em with you all! =D
My husband won't be coming with me... his work has been giving him the night shift this week... though he did manage to move his class so he'll be around Saturday night! Woo!
I have a few things left to do for the home haunt (and apparent "party" I'll be having because my family and in-laws want to see what we're doing and come have fun with us)... but I'm super-super excited! EeeEEE!... I mean Arrr!
My car is loaded up with my cannon so I can shoot mini candybars!... I also have a chest that looks piratey that my mom lent me. She also lent me a wooden barrel. I'm loading those down with candy and awesome things to hand out. Yay! It should be a fun time! SooOooOoOo excited!
... and the weather was like insta-cold last night. It's in the 50's today! Y'day it was in the 80s! Gah! FREEZING! (Don't laugh... I *like* +100-degree weather when you "snow people" would be saying it's "too hot".)
Whee!

I admire you for making trunk or treating interesting for the little ones.
50 degrees? pshaw.

Sounds like a lot of fun Jadewik! And I would love to see pictures *hint hint*
. Candy cannon sounds pretty cool, haven't heard of anything like that before. Sheesh we have been having temps in the 50s for a couple months
, but it's good you get to enjoy some cool weather every once in awhile.

Re: Halloween Part 1 For Me Tonight!
Sooo.... I didn't have any backup tonight-- it was just me. My husband had to work and my other backup didn't stay for the Trunk-or-Treat. I still had a blast-- even if it was a free-for-all at my trunk!
I loaded up the treasure chest with 3 BAGS of Cost-Co candy and told kids to "take a handful"... I was still begging people to take it by the end of the night! (Fortunately, I found some teenagers to take it off my hands.) I also had pirate dog-tags from Oriental Trading, pirate eye patches (from Target at last year's after Halloween sales), skull rings (target), sectiony pencils (Target), erasers (dollar bin at target), hair clips (Spirit Halloween Store), Pirate stickers (Oriental Trading)... I left the 8" glow bracelets at home because I didn't have anyone to help pass those out-- besides, I only have like 500 left from the 1000 I bought 3 years ago (http://illuminationz.com/). *grin*
Then I shot mini candy bars from my cannon.... I'd load the cannon, ram the candy with the ram-rod, use the bike foot pump to pressurize the pressure chamber of the "cannon" (My husband built it based on a potato gun plan at instructables.com).... then I'd yell "fire in the hole!"... pull on the leather strap... and shoot candy!
The kids loved it!
"Can you shoot candy into my bag?"
"Woah! What are you shooting? Candy? NEAT!"
"That is so cool! How'd you guys do that?"
... and, of course, I was most amused... my cannon got aimed at a thorn-bush because of all the kids raiding my treasure chest. (Does that sound dirty or what?) There were kids digging candy out of the thorn bush and some guy taking photos saying he was going to Blog about it! Hahaha! I'll have to Google it later to see if I can find it! Haha.
Anyway.... it wasn't much-- but there's not a lot you can do for Trunk-or-Treat, but I do my best to make it fun for all! Unfortunately, once the maelstrom started I was too busy to take photos... and I didn't have any backup to help take photos... so all I got was the pre-game show photo.

... and here's my first pumpkin of the year:

Wow that is a great idea, jadewik! I would have never thought of the candy cannon.
And your pics are very cool, I like the costume and the werewolf pumpkin.

Re: Halloween Part 1 For Me Tonight!
wow your pumpkin looks SO good
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!
