How Old Is Too Old?

I could never stop celebrating Halloween all together, either. That old woman, is probably soo scare do open her door to anyone she doesn't know any more, because the elderly are target by people like that. I also can't help but to think that the world we live in today is unfortunately a darn sight more rotten then the one I got to go TOTing in. The "stories" about razor were around, but most of them were false, and very few people even gave out apples. One of our neighbors use to give out home made popcorn balls that I can still taste to this very day. You can TOT the world over and never find a pop corn ball that could even hold a candle to it.

I guess I was lucky. Yes, when I was a kid, the Vietnam war raged, my brother was drafted, and there was all kinds of unrest, but people were safe in their own homes.

Well I don't want to rant about the way the world is today, but sufice it to say, as long as the tradition of Trick or Treat is still being observed, I will continue to observe it by giving out candy.

I've said it before that we haunters may end up like midevil monks, secretly hoarding the lost knowledge that is Halloween, for later enerations to rediscover.

That seems to be the way all our traditions are going these days. But then, the traditions that I grew to know and love were probably not part of the traditions that my parents, grandparents or great grand parents grew to know and love. I remember hearing my father telling me stories about how it was traditional in his father's and grand fathers time to hunt for the turkey that's to be served for Thanksgiving. His grandfather hunted for the turkey, his father started out, but then went to buying live turkeys from a farmer, and then it wen to store bought long before I was even born.

I never hunted for a live turkey, but it might be an interesting blast from the past to do so. But I suppose that the traditions we loved will also becime "obsolete" at some point in History. I wouldn't be suprised, by the mid or towards the end of the 21st Century, you will never see a house build with a fire place in it again because of all the polution laws. That will pretty much kill the "Christmas Stockings hung by the chimney with care" tradition as well as all the songs about Santa Clause comming down the chimney. A real Chrsitmas Tree? Heaven forbid. That, too will probably go "obsolete" in order to 'save the trees.'

I can go on and on, but it's my hope that none of the above will happen until after I'm dead and gone.

I believe 100% in the spirit of trick or treating and i look for any excuse to take my little brother trick or treating.. and he ALWAYS insists that i carry a bag with him

which is good for me bc i LOVE the candy

Anyone who comes to my door in a Halloween costume and yells "Trick or Treat" is getting some candy. I don't care how old they are. I really miss Trick or Treating, but if I went Trick or Treating, I wouldn't be home to pass out candy to the kids.

But then again, I enjoy giving out the candy to the little ones as much as I use to enjoy ToTing.

I completely agree with you Mike! I was so mad because 3 years ago I dressed up and took my little sister TOTing and out of 10 houses only 2 gave me candy

And my neighbour down the street actually looked at me and said "Kate, aren't you too old to be acting immature and trick-or-treat"...like wtf? Anyways, I don't think anyone can be too old

i just think that if they're dressed up and genuinely having fun celebrating the holiday then there's nothing wrong with it

I will never figure out that mentality, FireFigher Barbie. I remember feeling really self consience when I was 13, and I stopped ToTing that year because of it. Nobody actualy said anything to me to make me feel that way, but I felt that way none the less. The kick in the pants was that all of my classmates actualy did go ToTing.

So I just don't know what's the deal with people who have to go out of their way to make some one feel self consience about putting a Halloween costume and ToTing, especialy if you have a younger sibling or child with you.

It's part of what makes Halloween great.
The spirit and the celebration of it. I don't care how old the person is, if they come to my door, they get candy!
And if my little yard haunt can scare 'em in the process, that much better!
