Simple, but Creepy
I had kids eating out of my hands (figuratively speaking) last year-- I was a witch! (My husband was an undertaker)
Having recently escaped from College I don't have a ton of decorations-- I've hardly place for my things in an apartment-- but I make due with what I have... and I totally splurged on costumes and candy since I had the budget.
I did the whole bubbling cauldron thing... had the candy already in the pot and I had these ingredient jars I'd got at Michael's with things I'd put in them that looked like what was on the label... and I'd take the things out of the jars and put it in the cauldron and make the kids say:
Trick or treat
Smell my feet
Give me something good to eat
... and I'd pull out full-sized candy bars (occasionally pretending to be pulled into the pot). The looks on their faces -- priceless! =)
Setup was pretty simple... I recommend a fog-machine cauldron... water gets messy (I did the bubbling cauldron at our church party, but not at the house). Table... black table cloth from Walmart... and I had some Luminaries I'd got at JoAnn's a couple years previous at the after Halloween sales. =)
Presto!
The visual was awesome... I had a couple kids too scared to walk up the driveway/pathway! Hehehe.

I wish I had a front porch =( first year of marriage = duplex. not much to work with, but we're gonna try our hardest!
When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.

Re: Simple, but Creepy
That's actually my in-law's house... hubby and I lived in apartments up 'till Jan 2008. The house we're renting now is in a gated community-- I still can't decide between doing the haunt there or at my in-laws. I'm leaning towards having it at our own place this year... the volume of ToT'ers should be MUCH smaller... as opposed to +150 at my in-law's.crimson_autumn wrote:I wish I had a front porch =( first year of marriage = duplex. not much to work with, but we're gonna try our hardest!
In the years I lived in a duplex or apartments, I'd either go "reverse Trick-or-treating" or find somewhere else to pass out candy. Do what you can! I'm sure it'll work out wonderfully! =)
