Oh s**t!!!! I wish I would know more about spiders, but if you take a pic of the spider (a sample) you know, then post it here and let me take a good look at it! I will tell you if it has poisonous or not... If it already bit you, you better go to the emergerncy room immediately! If not, then don't worry... did you kill it already???

I know you're from MA - but I'm not really familiar with spiders there. I only know little about spiders here in VA. No poisonous spiders here in my area, but sometimes they will bit, and will make you sick like a day or two... Jeez! You saw black spider with red head and tan on the back, correct? How big is it? Tell me something like 1 inch or 2 inch long?

Just kill it. If you see anymore just kill them. Try not to get bitten.

I suggest you kill 'em all period!!!

Well, what about jumping spider?? You know, some spiders climb the wall and jump to other walls and doors, etc. Are they poisonous or not?? I believe not...

My advice is to see if you find a black spider with red belly - Too poison!!! KILL IT IMMEDIATELY!!!

Oh god, I really REALLY hate spiders. I had a bad experience with them back in Mexico. One morning I woke up and saw LOADS of them. They were on the floor, walls, and celling. I cound hear their legs tap on the ground as they crawled. It was so creepy and disgusting. I didn't move for like 10 minutes. Then I made a quick dash out of the room just to come face to face with this big red with black stripes bumble bee. Oh god, it was horrible.

Hey there!

Try these links & see if this might be the spidey you are looking for:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodlouse

Oh, and I, too, have found a few of these fellas in the basement over the years. They are called woodlouse hunter spiders (if it's the same one you found!) and they like to eat the little bugs that sometimes roll up into a ball if you touch them called woodlice/sow bugs/"pill bugs", which is most probably why when these spiders are in our houses they hang out where its damp (like the basement or in the shower!) because that's where their food hangs out !

Hope that helps.
