Hopkins Confirmed for The Wolfman
Source: MTV
October 19, 2007

It's been rumored for a while, but now Sir Anthony Hopkins has confirmed that he will star opposite Benicio Del Toro in Universal's The Wolfman, scheduled for a February 13, 2009 release.

"I'm going to do 'The Wolfman' with Benicio Del Toro," Hopkins told MTV during an interview for his upcoming movie, Slipstream.

Hopkins will play Sir John Talbot, father to Del Toro's Lawrence Talbot, the character who becomes afflicted with the werewolf curse. Mark Romanek directs from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker.

Hmmm..... that could be interesting. I just hope that it turns out better than 'Wolf', with Jack Nicholson, did in 1994.

You're pulling my tail!

Anthony Hopkins?
While he did great in other flicks, I don't think he has the physical presence to be a wolfman. Short stature, frail old man look. Or at least, that's how I see him on the screen. You need an actor that has a decent physical stature. Some weight. Hopkins seems he would blow away like a sheet of paper from the breeze of a leaky balloon.

Jack never really sat right with me as a werewolf. It just didn't seem like the right role for the guy. He did a good job, but I just didn't "get there" with Jack. He always seemed to be on the freaky side with characters. Oddball stuff. He could take you there with that sort of thing.

Take someone like Will Smith. He would make it a great film. He's into that sci-fi fantasy/horror genere that could make it cool. (Men in Black, Wild Wild West, Independance Day, to name a few.) Inject a bit of humor, and bring the character to a real world type of "believability". He's got the box office draw, he has the presence that's needed. He has the agility and talent. Plus, he'd probably make a good music video for the flick too.

Sorry. Hopkins would make me passover this remake.

Read the original post above more carefully:
"Hopkins will play Sir John Talbot, father to Del Toro's Lawrence Talbot, the character who becomes afflicted with the werewolf curse."

In other words, he's playing the Claude Rains role from the original movie, not the Lon Chaney role.

{Wolfie does his best "Emely Latella" Portrayed by Gilda Radner of the original SNL cast...}

Oh, well. That's quite different. Isn't it?

Nevermind.

Then I take it that Will Smith is out of the question then.

decent enough actor

I think anthony hopkins would make a pretty decent sir john talbot.he has,to my mind, enough physical similarities to claude rains, from height, build, but more importantly,a more natural aged appearance.claude rains looked a bit comical, standing next to the mighty huge lon chaney jr,but claude had a magnificent voice and wonderful face to watch, especially when he was horrified.
I am a bit unsure benicio del toro will have the same sympathetic effect on people as lon chaney jr had,as the wolfman, simply because his face looks like a wolf or a vampire normally.

MmMmmMm... Anthony Hopkins. I love his acting-- especially as the Doctor in The Elephant Man (young Hopkins... *drool*) and as Hannibal the Cannibal.

I think the fellow has already contributed a lot to the horror genre via Hannibal. It'll be great to see him add a bit more via The Wolfman.

Besides The Wolf Man (yes, three words) and the Hannibal Lecter duo, Hopkins has been in several other fantasy and horror movies: Beowulf, coming out later this year; The Devil and Daniel Webster; narrating How the Grinch Stole Christmas; meeting death himself in Meet Joe Black; Dr. Van Helsing in Bram Stoker's Dracula; Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, for television; Magic; and as a man who believes his daughter's spirit has been reincarnated in Audrey Rose.

I heard they're going to try to be relatively faithful to the original Wolf Man plot elements, can't wait to see it . . .

I Think Del Toro will do a wonderful job, he's a great actor, and seems perfect for the part. I seen a picture on the set before they put on the make-up and he already looked like the wolfman.

I saw a picture of him, and I thought the same thing!

I found an image! It's pretty good. Not that much make-up though.
But I have to wonder if they'll use CG to enhance the film?
