Curses!!

Post by Andybev01 » Sun Jul 26, 2020 3:46 pm

I'll try to make this long story short.

Next month on August 30th it will be the 360th anniversary of the annulment of my 9th great-grandmother, Marie Pontonnier's, first marriage.

Why am I posting that here on halloween.com?, because that marriage was annulled by the church because it was ruled that the couple were unable to produce children because a member of their wedding party cursed them by tying two knots in a rope during their wedding vows.

Apparently that was how a witch, or sorcerer, could render a couple barren.

The attached image is from Parish records from what is now a Catholic church in Montreal.

Her second marriage didn't fare too well either. That short-lived coupling was decoupled rather unpleasantly by the Iroquois.

Third time being the charm, grandma got hitched to Grandpa and 310 years later the world was blessed with my presence. :P

That's a great story, and definitely on topic for Halloween.com. You could have posted it in the Creepy Halloween forum.
People took witches and curses very seriously 360 years ago.

I observed great gramma's x9 annulment by watching'The Crucible' yesterday, or I should say, started to watch it.

My brain just couldn't connect to the subject matter, so I watched 'Hocus Pocus' for the thousandth time instead. :)

Lol. I like The Crucible, but Hocus Pocus is the supreme Halloween movie around our house!

I don't just do scary movies on Halloween, but the entire month of October.

I check out horror movies through out the year, too. This year, I also plan to be making a few more 'haunted road trips,' because I now have a car that I can depend on. I use to do that a lot before my former car turned over 100 thousand miles. But in October, I watch at least one horror movie, tv show or Halloween themed episode of a regular tv show every day, with the big day being the most significant.
