Next month on August 30th it will be the 360th anniversary of the annulment of my 9th great-grandmother, Marie Pontonnier's, first marriage.
Why am I posting that here on halloween.com?, because that marriage was annulled by the church because it was ruled that the couple were unable to produce children because a member of their wedding party cursed them by tying two knots in a rope during their wedding vows.
Apparently that was how a witch, or sorcerer, could render a couple barren.
The attached image is from Parish records from what is now a Catholic church in Montreal.
Her second marriage didn't fare too well either. That short-lived coupling was decoupled rather unpleasantly by the Iroquois.
Third time being the charm, grandma got hitched to Grandpa and 310 years later the world was blessed with my presence.
