I'm not really sure what to say about the movie. Trying to remake a movie like Halloween is very risky. The expectations are so high that it's nearly impossible to pull it off. I don't understand why you would to try and recreate something that has already proved itself and many years later is still great to all of us. I didn't have that "feeling" that we all have after watching the originals nor did I ever jump or was caught off guard. I went home after seeing the remake and put in the original. I still enjoy that movie and still get that "feeling" while wathcing it.

I will give Zombie credit for trying it. That takes alot to try and pull that off. While I thought the movie was ok. There were a few things I did like about the movie but I will not say because of those who have yet to see it. Overall I rate it a 5 out of 10. I'm curious what people think so please keep the thread going. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves with Halloween approaching us. Take Care everyone.

I have yet to be able to weigh in on this subject, as I will not see the movie until later on tonight...from what I gather, it's mainly a film that only the hard-corest of Zombie's fans will enjoy, hmmmmmmm.....I LOVED 'The Devil's Reject's', I just gotta give this a shot.

I can't stand the fact that Rob Zombie remade this movie...but I am so happy to see what people wrote about it, because I have felt like I have been the only person left on the planet who can't stand to see classic movies and tv shows remade. It is exactly for the reasons stated in this thread. They suck so badly. The reason that the first Halloween was so awesome...was it had a great cast- acting today is horrible-people are so aware that they are being filmed, that you can not get anybody to act natural on camera...they over act, and they are nobody who is even slightly interesting anyway. What I liked about Halloween and the cast of counselors in the 1st 3 Friday the 13th movies is the actors weren't anybody who had any experience, but they did a fantastic job, and the movie was believeable. When they add in all these gross effects, it takes away from the movie being scary...and just makes you want to throw up...there is no reason for it. When I watched the making of the original "The Fog"...it was so cool to see how they created the actual fog in the movie-that was cool movie making. This stuff today is so twisted and so demented....and kids are exposed to that kind of stuff every day..and I don't care what anyone says...it is having an effect on their minds. The previews looked awful in the acting department...the girl playing Jamie isn't even good looking....all she was doing in the previews was screaming like a maniac. She didn't have the heroic and wholesome quality that Jamie Leigh does. Girls in new movies are all a bunch of skanks...you never actually see a nice girl in a movie...like someone you'd actually intrust your children too, because they don't exist any more.

I am sick of nudity scenes in movies...that have nothing to do with anything....that's all TV has become too, and it makes me sick...because kids today have seen so many disturbing things that never should have been allowed to be on TV.....I have said forever...that just because we have the freedom in this country to do and say whatever we feel, people need to think long and hard about what they are putting out there for the world....I love Halloween and scary movies...but there is a line on how disturbing I think things should be....music is just as bad...kids have absolutely nothing to listen to that isn't demented and a total mess.

I can't understand why John Carpenter allowed his movie to be messed with.

I have said...if they were ever going to do a Halloween movie...they can quit with the Michael Meyers stuff- that has been worn out as much as anything can ever be. What they should do...is go back to John Carpenter's original idea...where Halloween 3-Season of the Witch came to be...and that was to make a movie based around scary stuff happening on Halloween. That is an original concept that has not been done. There are so many stories that could be created in to scary movies based on something happening on Halloween night. People have been ruined by watching new movies, thinking they have to be gross to be good....they need to be suspenseful and thrilling to be good, and that's what the major problem is.

I think we'll find the new movie called "Trick R Treat" fits into the ideas you mentioned near the end of your post; a scary movie based around the events on a Halloween night.

By the way, did you see Halloween yet? I couldn't tell from your post.

Alright, so I saw this last night, AND of course it does not replace the original, but having said that, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be after reading all the reactions and reviews on it....Michael's background story did not involve a psychotic family upbringing as what I thought would happen. In fact, aside from a creepy stepdad, he came from a pretty normal family and his mom really loved him. Didn't see that coming, I mean, I thought they would've have been a strong influence on his 'problems' but really Michael was just born a nutcase.

Also I'd say Michael the kid was a LOT more vicious than Michael the adult..and you know, he really didn't kill anymore folks in this version than the original although yes, the death scenes WERE more gory--but ya can't say they weren't 'realistically' done, shoot, there would be a lot of blood involved in a knife or baseball bat attack!

(And a couple of the characters who bought the farm really deserved it.

)

Rob Z. did extract some lines and situations from the original to insert in his version, and I thought that was uneccessary because they didn't have the same feel and flow as the original. And he could've made better choices for a couple of the actresses (especially Laurie Strode

), but all in all I'd say it was okay, worthy of a rental anyways, and not as gory as the Devil's Rejects or certainly House of 1.000 Corpses.

I may not watch this Halloween too many more times, but I also haven't lost faith that Rob Zombie can put on a great production...he just needs to stick to original stories.

What is really sad is that after your wrap up of the movie your final analysis was "it was okay." And this is what many feared I believe, you take a "classic" in many people's opinion (just not OEJ's

) and you make an "okay" movie.

So why bother?

I saw this yesterday with a friend who's never seen the original. I saw the original only once, in 1991 when I rented it for a Halloween party I threw in college. I don't remember most of it; I do remember that we were making fun of it. You have to understand, by the time we were seeing Halloween, we were so incredibly jaded by other horror movies that we'd seen it all so many times. Thing is, John Carpenter's Halloween was the original, and all the movies we'd seen were the copycats, drawing from that, only we saw them in the wrong order.

That said, I really did like the original Halloween, and have always been a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis.

My friend really liked this one. I actually did too, although the acting in the beginning was atrocious, except for the young Michael. That kid's got a definite future in show business. The older sister was so contrived, I wanted to smack her silly.

I'm usually not big on remakes. And it's not just horror movies - did Flight of the Phoenix really need to be remade? I mean, really. The ONLY reason I went to see this Halloween was because it was done by Rob Zombie and I love the previous work I've seen by him. Walking in, having seen his other movies, I knew even before I bought my ticket how gory it'd be. I knew there'd be those crazy angles & close-up shots. Gore doesn't bother me. Nudity doesn't bother me.

[By the way, at our theater, they were checking IDs to let you in, so I imagine bringing a younger sibling will be difficult.]

I knew what to expect from Rob Zombie, so I wasn't disappointed at the result. Was it a classic? Absolutely not. Am I upset at spending $9? No. Did I have fun? Yup.

The highlights:

Malcom McDowell as the doc rocked.
Young Michael rocked.
Adult Michael, played by the 6'8" (holy crow!) actor who played Sabretooth in X-Men was almost sufficiently imposing.
I liked the background on Michael's childhood.
The soundtrack was great - Rob & I apparently have very similar taste in music.
The crazy cinematography.

I haven't seen the movie. I won't watch garbage...especially if I know it's garbage ahead of time. I went and saw The Invasion, and it stunk- it wasn't scary at all, me and my son were the only ones in the movies...which is sad because I use to love going to the movies. The thing with the new Halloween movie is ...it will make money because the sad thing is....that people will like it because they don't know anything better....I still think even if you have never seen the original...that it is a scary movie...plus the people in it are likeable, and the movie seems believable. The soundtrack to the original Halloween is the best horror music ever. I liked the neighborhood the original was filmed in...I also love Jamie Leigh in Prom Night....quit watching new horror movies...go back to the 70's and 80's for good stuff.

yea agree **Spoiler** TO make micheal the victim of a abusive childhood was a complete waste to me, because I like the whole reason why "no one really know why he killed his sister", he just does, and the stripper, the extra swearing, the dad, and yes the ending was <deleted> as well. a little to much for me I think. so I probaly rent and burn to dvd not even waste my money on it or even watch the free link to it now on http://www.youtu.com so yea that is my take on it. Never was a Zombie fan.

I liked the prequel part of it, for the most part anyway, some stuff was a bit much though and over the top vulgarity where its just not needed. Its suppose dot be a scary movie, not a XXX movie. The rest of the movie was a waste. Meh, I think they should have done the prequel part a little shorter and then have it lead into a re-mastered new score re-release of the original.

OR, have it only has a prequel and then have the last scene be a scene from the original. Original is where its at though.
