Another Halloween wedding

Post by MacPhantom » Fri Jul 26, 2013 9:35 am

Hi Gang. It seems the Halloween.com forum can take credit for at least one Halloween wedding; Ciuin and I are making plans for our October 27th hitching. We met right here on these very boards, fell in love, then in lust, and now are fully committed to spending the rest of our lives together (we think we can do more damage that way). We have a little ghoul on the way, due at the end of the year or perhaps very early next year, and it's time for us to get serious with the wedding plans.

We want to do things as cheaply as possible, and we're both pretty crafty, so I want to put out a call for help and ideas. We need ideas for simple decorations to make our Halloween wedding and masquerade reception as fun as funds will allow. Any tips, links, how-tos, or don'ts are most appreciated. I'm looking for lanterns in bulk, either bought or made for cheap. Skulls, electric tea lights, cake toppers, candelabras. Anyone here who had a Halloween wedding of your own? What did you do? What worked and what didn't?

We're trying to stay away from too gory, but creepy is good. Any help or ideas you may have to offer is most appreciated. And, of course, everyone here at the forum is invited.

Cheers!

Congrats to both of you. Weddings can be done on the cheap(though they usually aren't here in northern New Jersey). For bulk things you can probably check out oriental trading. I don't know if they have exactly what you're looking for but they often sell things in bulk.

Wow, congrats! Not that I ever did, but I will certainly never underestimate the magical powers of this forum.

My girlfriend is an interior designer, and has worked in wedding planning in the past. I'll see if she has any good ideas and pass them along.

Once again, congratulations, and have fun with the prep!

What a special Halloween 2013 it will be for you two!

Yay! Congratulations to all three of you :D You must be so happy!

I remember seeing some neat Halloween cake toppers online in the past. I'll try to hunt those down again!

Well, well, well! Congratulations on both accounts. I'm afraid to see what you're gonna name the baby. If it's a boy i'm suggesting Aloysius Scaresalot.

For the wedding, you may want to think of a theme. May make it easier to think of how to decorate. Something like 'Nightmare Before Christmas' or 'Day of the Dead'? Speaking of, I just pinned a tutorial on how to make Mexican paper flowers. That may come in handy? Might want to look around Pinterest for ideas. Lots of cool stuff there. Like this.

Hmmm.... how about dead flowers for the bride's bouquet?

As for decorations, here are some palettes that may help with the color scheme. Remember those looped paper chains we made when we were kids? Might be a good way to decorate the reception area cheaply.

For lanterns, how about balloons with glowsticks inside? Small sticks so the balloons still float if you put helium in them. Or something like this? Halloween themed Chinese lanterns?

Would an orange dress for Ciuin and black tux for you be too over the top? Of course, you'd probably want to wear a black kilt in place of pants? Could always change into costumes for the reception. A couple years ago at my niece's Halloween wedding she did the pregnant nun and he did the prisoner with a ball and chain.

Instead of Ciuin walking down the isle how about having your best men carry her to the front in a coffin. Creepy enough for you? Or at the least, have a coffin up front, looking like a prop, that you step out of?

Something else I came across... skeleton flamingos. Any way to work those in?

You will of course provide a video stream to the web so we can watch the ceremony?

Good ideas Nevermore. If she doesn't want dead flowers she can look into black magic roses. They're not actually black unfortunetly but a cool deep purple color. When my cousin got married in the fall they used pumpkins as the centerpieces with their monogram carved through the skin but not the flesh(i'm sure there's a term for that that I am unaware of) and then put flowers in it. It was elegant and Halloweeny. Also would she think about walking down the isle to the funeral dirge or perhaps This is Halloween either the original or the extra creepy Marilyn Manson version instead of here comes the bride? OOO maybe even dress as Jack and Sally! Nevermore has a good point about pintrest. I don't really use it myself(my wife does though) but I do know there are some cheap and crafty ideas on there on the cheap.

A song that I've always wanted to hear at a wedding reception is Elvira's, Here Comes the Bride (of Frankenstein).

Whomever is giving away the bride could carry a shotgun and stand behind Mac.
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Andy I've never heard that song before. Sadly I've not seen many of Elvira's movies or heard her songs. However I'm listening to it now...It is both wonderfully 80's and more important wonderfully Halloween. It would make a fine addition to their ceremony. If not at the ceremony at the very least the reception.

Be even better if they dressed up as the Monster and the Bride.
