Re: Your job?
A mental hospital could be considered scary today because of the possibility of escaped patients.
And something I forgot to mention, there is a part of the property of the place in the woods that has a graveyard and other creepy stuff. I'd tell more, but it's the internet and I don't wanna reveal where I work or live. I don't think you're an axe murderer, it's just a safety precaution. Anyways the spooky area in the woods has a ghostly legend about it. A local author even wrote about the place as a portal into a world of vampires.
So I do have somewhat of a horror job!!

Re: Your job?
Or you can simply offer them FINGER SANWICHES......narf narf...
But now that does sound creepy, and I can understand you not wanting everyone to know who you are or where you live and work.
My point, is that in any place where you have wretched suffering, you have the potential for a haunting. My case in point was the Bartonville Insane Asylum. That place was build in the 'hey day' of the stereotypical 'snake pit,' where horible things were done to sick individuals under the guise of "curing' them of their affliction. In those days, being committed to any kind of a mental institution had a serious socil stigma attached to it. If it got out you ever did time in a "looney bin," you couldn't get a job, and nobody ever trusted you, not even members of your own family. One of my great grandparents was committed to a mental institudion in the late 1800s after a head injury. He was labled as "insane," and was ostricised by his neighbors and even his own brothers and sisters.
The contitions in those "institutions" were horendous. Rats, cockroaches, filth everywhere you look, patiends confined to straight jackets for hours and says on end, emersion in freezing cold water, electro shock, latobomies, you name it. Those places were prime candidates for hauntings. Now a days, a mental illness is seen as just that. An illness, and nothing more. You aren't labeled as a "lunatic" and ostricised for the rest of your life for suffering a depression. I, myself, did a week on a Psiciatric Ward at a hospital because of depression back in the late 80s. Not only did I NOT lose my job, but my employers and co workers actualy thought it was to my credit that I had the good sense to ask for help when I needed it. IF this had happened in the 1880s and I comitted myself to a place like the Bartonville Insane Asylum, I might be there for the rest of my life. My family would have nothing to do with me, IF I were actualy among the tiny percentage that did get released, and I would have suffered no end of torturs.
No wonder there are stories of hauntings associated with places like that. Prisons are no exceptions. The abandoned West Virgina State Penitentury, for instance is listed as being one of the most haunted places in the world, and that's mainly because of the evil, and suffering that went on there.

Re: Your job?
Just ended my first day about an hour ago. It's only a few hours and just kitchen work, but damn it's tiring. My legs are aching from standing all day. Oh well, that's what I get for sitting in front of a computer all day.

Re: Your job?
I work at Savers in the production area (it's a local thrift store). I make a little more than minimum wage which is $8.25 here but I do get bonuses and holiday pay which is great. I still own my housekeeping business, it still makes really good money but not quite enough to do all the things I want to do.

Working with the good ole gramps lol
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Re: Your job?
I know several people who became millionares by opening up a janitorial business. Just general house cleaning, nothing more then that. Just goes to show you what hard work can do. These friends of mine, all make about 5 or 6 times what I make, and they made their fortunes cleaning one toilet at a time. Another buddy of mine went to work for McDonalds after graduating from college because it was the only job he could get due to the major recesion we were in back in the early 80s. He owns two McDonalds franchises now.
Hard work! That's what it's all about.
End of homily.

Re: Your job?
10 bucks an hour? That's about 20 thousand a year give or take IF you work 40 hours a week. Even back in the early 80s, 20 K a year was very mediocre money, only about 4 grand above poverty level, which was 16 K a year for a family of 4. Today the poverty line is 24 K a year for a family of 4.

This guy is a family of himself but he is a really scummy man. He tries to sell art for money but nobody is buying art right now so he fixes toilets and picks up dog <deleted> and other odd job for $10 an hour.

Re: Your job?
Like I said, he has to put in a minimum of 40 hours a week at that rate in order to make 20 grand a year. Being that he's alone, he can probably live much better then he could if he had mouths to feed, but I still wouldn't want to be in his shoes. I also know what you mean about art. I am haveing a little more luck with my photo studio, but it's tough for photographers, too. A lot of people simply can't afford to have a pro photog come over to their house.

Re: Your job?
Oh he usually has no hours. He is not even close to average 40 hours per week but when he gets a job sometimes he will work more than 40 hours the problem that it not consistant work. His motto is that most contractors and handyman overcharge to pay for nice truck, but he will do job right the first time for cheaper. Well he is almost homeless from lack of money so he needs a new slogan.
