dont forget also, many employers look at how you look, dress, carry your self. If you have more tattoos then Tommy Lee, long unkempt hair, never shave, and more piercings then fingers then theres a good chance most employers wont hire you, unless you apply at record stores, head shops, or tattoo parlors.....

Good point, Spooky. If you want to be seen as a professional, you have to look the part. I personaly know a few photographers who are just like you said. They have tatoos, long beards, long hairs, and ride Harleys. The thing is, they are also excelent photographers, but nobody will trust them because they look like they belong to the Hells Angels, which they don't. IN fact, they don't belong to any "Gang," but just go in for 'the look.' They both make 100 per cent of their living as freelancers, and even that can be problematic for them because people take one look at them and instead of a photographer they see a 'drug crazed biker.'

So yes, as superficial as a suit and tie may be, most employers expect anyone interviewing for a job with their company to look neatly kempt and professional.
BUT, they are also getting a lot smarter about being taken in by good looks and facty cloths. You better look the part, but you also better be able to do the job, and have the right answers to the interview questions.

Even applying for a job at Walmart or Target you should look decent, even those employers want to feel your competent and dependable and looks say a lot...

Spooky, dont let those Wal-Mart jobs fool you. It is very true that you will start at the bottom, and get paid only minimum wage to start, but if you prove to be worth your salt, you could become a general manager, and they bring in pretty good money. A girl who I knew in high school got her college degree in business management. After graduation she started work as a cashier at Perry Drug, and now she's a district manager. I don't know the numbers, but she's living better then I am, and she only got one college degree.

I work at Target, I make a bit more then minimum wage, not loads more but a bit more and when I interviewed I wore nice clothes, slacks a nice shirt and combed my hair, I dont have any piercings and I dont have a zillion tattoos, no one I work with looks like that. I think, no matter what job you're interviewing for (with the exception of tattoo parlors, rock band roadie, bar bouncer or other similar jobs, you should look like a "normal" person, not someone trying to rival Tommy Lee in the tattoos area or Gladia the pierced lady.

I think we are in total agreeance here Mike, dress like you are dependable, trust worth and actually look like you want the job no matter what job it is....

That's about the name of it, Spooky. A lot of students are enrolling in our Certified Nursing Assisstant (CNA) program, but nobody wants to go fir the Registured Nurs (RN) degree because it's a much tougher program accedemicaly, so the ones who do become RNs are getting hired right out of school. Heck, some of the hospitals come to my local community college and pluck them right out of here. Don't be fooled, though. Nursing is a very tough road to hoe, and many who do go in for RN don't make it. In addition to tons and tons of Nursing ed classes, you have to do an internship, and the job istelf, once you become an RN, is very hard, has very long hours, and it's common that you can put in a 12 hour shift without so much as a bathroom break.

Yes, RNs are very much in demand, but the job of being an RN is very demanding. That's why they get paid so much.
