You realize, of course, that "blanks" are not all that safe. If a person is close enough to them, they can kill. There was a young actor back in the '80s (John Eric Hexum, something like that) who killed himself with a blank pistol. He was goofing around on the set I think, and held it up to his head and shot. It killed him.
My husband was in the military at the time, and he and all the other young military officers just shook their heads. They knew that blanks weren't safe, but I don't think that young actor did.
