What does a firework club do for Halloween? We blow up pumpkins, with style, of course!

Around here, the supermarkets don't keep pumpkins after Halloween. I was irked last year when I saw some people, employees, I guess, smashing pumpkins in the parking lot of one of them on Nov. 1 or 2. Like I wouldn't use a pumpkin on Thanksgiving! I always have a pumpkin centerpiece, carved with a turkey stencil I saved and duplicated several years ago. And I love to roast the seeds. But I always have to buy it before Halloween.

Perhaps I'm being a cheapskate but it seems like pumpkins are kind of expensive this year. I haven't seen one for less than $5 and the last time I bought real pumpkins, I got them 3 for $5

The Pumpkins at Walmart and the Supermarket were around $2.99 each and they are big sized but I always buy at the farm...the Pumpkin patch is so much fun for the kids and me too. They charged $.45/lb so for 4 decent sized pumpkins it cost me less than $20

Unfortunately the closest pumpkin farm/patch to me is between 30 and 40 miles away and those punks actually charge admission!

That sucks...I love living in a semi rural agriculture based state There are about 50 farms all around within about 10 miles either way outside the city.

All have Haunted Hay rides, Pumpkin Patches, Apple Orchards, Haunted barns and corn mazes...hot apple cider, Pumpkin Spice Latte's or Pumpkin pie...would not trade Wisconsin for the Months of Sept and October for anywhere else...

Here in Dallas, in October it seems that you cannot throw a rock without hitting a haunted house but there really isn't much in the way of haunted hay rides. It sucks because I really want to go on a good one. I found a few haunted trails where you buy your ticket, grab a flashlight and then you're turned loose in the woods to fend for yourself, but no hayrides

I went on one when I was 15 and it was so bad! We were all looking ahead for monsters and then dracula hopped up on the hayride from the back. He was hissing and snarling at all of us but then we hit a bump and he fell in some girls lap and cussed and then his fangs fell out. FAIL

There are lots of attractions like that in Middle TN, too. What is keeping me away from them this year is $$, unfortunately. The commercial ones are around $15-$25 per person, which is fine if you are a teenager or college-aged and going with a group. Bu a parent or parents with a kid or two--ouch!

I am hoping my daughter and I can make it to the city's Halloween bash, which includes a haunted hayride for a minimal fee (around $5 a person). But we have a very crowded schedule next weekend, so it may not work out for us this year.

Daughter's church youth group had a bonfire out on someone's country property last weekend, so at least she got to do that.

Hey weird question: A long time ago there was this episode of A Haunting ( I know) where the people went to a supposedly haunted cemetary. There was a mausoleum there that, according to legend, if you sat on it, a ghost would push you off. I think it was in WI. Does that ring a bell to you?
