I am planning on watching "Peanuts" cartoons and have a piece of red velvet cake for desert tonight after my supper. But all in all, I don't really get into Valentines day. I will be here at work until after 6;00 tonight, so it won't be any great celebration of love for me. I will make a little extra $$$, though.

I really can't stand Valentines Day. I'm missing the romance gene so most of the lovey-dovey stuff makes me gag. I usually just hang with my sister and we get a pizza and either watch a hockey game or a movie. One year, my boss left a heart-shaped box of chocolates on every womans desk in the office. That was nice but it kinda made me laugh a bit because it seemed like he was trying to alleviate any stress or emotional break-downs that the single ladies might have--being alone on Valentines Day and all

Valentine's Day has always struck me as a "Hallmark holiday," not really an authentic occasion. However, it is very old (Chaucer even has a poem about it, more or less--the Parliament of Fowls). It just has never struck me as something I just had to celebrate.

In recent years, I've taken to making chocolate covered strawberries for my family on that day. Ironically, my kids like them more than my husband does. He doesn't really like strawberries that much. So I guess I've turned it into more of a family time than a romantic one.

When I was a little kid in school, we would each bring enough valentines to give to everyone inour class. Then we would all get one from each kid. It was fun when I was little, but as I got older, Valentines day more or less faded away for me. I did enjoy it when I use to date, but now a days, it's just an excuse to watch the Valentine's Day Peanuts cartoon specials on DVD. I MAY get myself one of those red velvet cake rolls from Berkots, but most likely I won't because Valentines day falls on a Tuesday this year, and mid February is when things start getting really busy with my work and home business photo schedule. February in general is a great time for doing couple portraits.

But on Tuesday the 14th, if I don't have a "hot date" with my camera, I'll be watching "Be My Valentine Charlie Brown," along with a few other Peanuts specials. Like I said, I might have a piece of red velvet cake roll, and if I have the money, I may treat myself to a steak or something, but for the most part, Valentines day is just not anything significant to me any more.
