Cemetery Scape

I'm a little late for this year (Submission deadline was April 15, 2013)-- but I had NO IDEA this contest even existed or I'd have entered by now.
It's a photography contest... where anyone can submit a photo of a cemetery. Woo!

Maybe next year... if I remember... I'll enter. I could use an extra $1k in my pocket should the heavens align and I magically win. Heh. Entry fee is $10/photo. You also have to print, matt, frame, label, and deliver (
per guidelines) IF your electronic image is accepted to the actual contest. AND... if you don't pick up your entry if it doesn't sell, it's considered a tax deductible donation.
Personally, I wouldn't mind leaving it as a tax donation since proceeds go to restore old cemeteries-- and New Orleans has a lot of really nice ones there!
Anyway... just wanted to pass the info along for next year. Sounds fun!

I should enter some of my Bachelors Grove photos into that contest if they have it next year. The only thing is that I am a professional photographer by trade, so I could be disqualified.

Mike, you wouldn't be DQ'ed... it says on their main page: "All amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit..."
I'd personally LOVE to see some of your photos. Granted, I can understand, as a professional, not wanting to post 'em online and have 'em stolen. I guess what I'm saying is... if you enter and win, I want to see what photo won. LOL. =)

At the very least, Mike, you could post lo-res copies to an image hosting site. That way you could get your work out there without people taking advantage of it. People will still use it for their own, possibly nefarious deeds, but you will know whose sweat and blood went into creating those images. Anyways, the originals are what really count. As someone who's always looking for interesting hi-res images, I know this.
Something interesting I read the other day, someone compared pre-internet to pre-history. Most, if not all, of mankind's knowledge and works-of-art will eventually end up on the internet. What does not end up here will most likely be lost to history. Books don't last forever. Usually. When is the last time anyone here printed or developed a photograph they took? Mike... all those images you recorded... if you get caught in a ???... tornado? No one will ever get a chance to experience the world through your eyes.

Err... last week? *wink* I stockpile photos and books and things.... because you never know when the internet will go down.

That's a very good idea, NeverMore. In fact, I have been looking into something like that so I can grow my freelance business. I even toyed with the idea of setting up my very own web site to promote my work.
As for developing film, I actualy still dabble with it a little, but it's very expensive any more. My darkroom is pretty much black & white film & prints only. On the rare ocassions I shoot on film, I use a Mamyia 645 medium format camera.
