Now is the start of the season window and ideal time to plant pumpkin seeds so they catch all the spring rain at the end of march and into April. So go plant those Pumpkins. Linus is going to need the most sincere Pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to arrive.

I wish I could plant some! And I can't blame the animals *too* much. Pumpkins are tasty!

I want a pumpkin patch too. I'm not sure that it's really that practical for me though. Once they sprout up, I'd probably spend all my time just hanging out in the patch...I'd never get anything done

Folks, all I ever wanted was a pumpkin patch like the one Linus waited for the great pumpkin in the cartoon tv special "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." I don't really care for growing a whole garden. Just pumpkins. And you are right. It's not the animals fault, it's their nature.

Thanks for the reminder, Nos! I'm a little late, but I've bought some seeds and I'm hoping to plant some seeds into the ground this week... we'll see if it actually happens! =)

WELL IVE TRIED LOADS OF TIMES TO GROW PUMPKINS BUT NO JOY,MAYBE ITS MY CLIMATE,DON"T KNOW,ANYBODY GOT ANY EASY WAY TO GROW PUMPKINS,WOULD LOVE TO GROW MY OWN

They are native to North America. I have no idea if they would thrive in Scotland. A determined person could probably grow anything in a greenhouse.
I haven't had much luck trying to grow gourds of any type, including watermelons. I don't know if it's my soil or the small critters around here that like to munch on whatever I plant.

One time when I was a kid, I planted watermelon seeds. Those things sprouted right up...but then my older brother ran over them with the lawnmower and ruined my crop
I've been told though that pumpkins are similar in that they sprout pretty quickly in the right environment.

Murf, I think your problem is the critters, because that's what happens to me all the time. The rabbits and the squirls, and we have a huge population of both, devour my pumpkins by the time they get to be the size of straw berries. We also have a huge population of crows that you can hear them every morning just before dawn. Many a time they actualy woke me up with their infernal kawing. They litteraly blacken the sky at times, and they......mess........all over the place. I wish they would learn to fly upside down over my car. At any rate, they love to eat the seads.
But nothing ventured, nothing gained. If I get one good jack o'lantern, I'll be grateful.

With two vehicle payments, my gardening budget is a bit short. I thought about planting them inside the house using flower pots, which I may try this year, but that too depends on the money situation. I'm actualy going to have an air conditioning bill next month, as I had to air condition a few times last week, and last night temps dropped into the low 40s, so I had to use my furnace, so with both an electric and a gass bill that is going to be close to 100 bucks, it's hard to make any plans at this point. Of course, the air was not on extensively like it is during the Summer months, but I won't really know until I get that infernal ComEd bill in the mail.

HI MURPH,YEP MUST TRY GROWING IT IN A GREENHOUSE,I SEEM TO GET TO THE FLOWERING STAGE AND THEN AFTER THAT THINGS GO WRONG,BUT IM DETERMINED TO GROW MY OWN PUMPKINS MURPH,IL GIVE IT ANOTHER BASH,THANKS!
