I don't know if all of you have seen this, but apparently Six Flags New Orleans closed before Hurricane Katrina and never re-opened, now it's decrepid. Check out this video, it would make a cool haunt! :D

I'd like to build that place as my own haunted carnival, something like that.... it would be a lot of fun! :D So, if I want to own that place, what do you think I should name that place?

 You're funny! If I want to own that place, I would name it "New Orleans Haunted Carnival" and I would open all year round, except holidays. Even, if I want to take a day off, maybe away for vacation whatever and I would let the managers to know and watch over that place for me. ;)

I'm actually glad they're demolishing it and selling the scrap in Jan 2011....

Apparently, according to a friend of mine who lives in New Orleans, it wasn't very profitable in that location.

That was creepy, but in a different way. It reminded me of a typical scene from one of thoe post Apochalypse flicks, like "Planet of the Apes," or "Mad Max." Too bad they plan to demonish the place. That's a lot of lost jobs. I wonder if that decision was made by 6 Flags, or by the New Orleans city government.

from what I understood of the articles I read, that park was losing money and six flags offered $10 mil and some land they had to the city to get out of their 75yr contract but the city turned it down so six flags left as the storm was rising then never went back, now I guess the city is willing to accept the money but six flags is in bankruptcy and dont have it....

I'll find out more information about this later on. ;)

I'm really sorry to hear that, Spooky, because 6 Flags was 2nd only to Disney in having some of the most creative theme parks, and IMHO even better rides. "Great America" use to be a fun place to go and take a girl on a date, or to take my little nieces and nephews. Now a days, the place is a pig sty. The water park is pretty decent, but Great America has degenerated into a hand-out for gang bangers. Half the rides were closed the last time I took my grand nieces there. They were very disappointed. To top it off, the food was rediculously expensive, and PUTRED to boot. The burgers we had seemed to be made up of 90% bone fragments. I guess it's no wonder they are in bankruptcy.

At any rate, I do hope they clean up their act, because I liked Great America and other 6 Flags theme parks. The one in St. Louis was awesome, or at least it was the last time I was there. I've only been to 6 Flags over St. Louis, an to Great America. I havent been to any others. The first time I went to Great America it was not owned by 6 Flags. It started out as "Mariots Great American," and it was to Warner Brothers cartoon characters (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc) what Disney was to Disney cartoon characters. Frankly, Iliked it best when it was Marriots Great America and not 6 Flags, but 6 Flags use to be good.

As of early 2010, the site is overgrown with debris and weeds. Removal of the debris and underbrush has now begun.

As of April 2010, the site is still shut down with no future clear, since New Orleans officially now owns the property and the plans for the Nickelodeon branded theme park fell through three months after bonds failed to come through.

As of October 2010, Southern Star Amusement, Inc. is still working to recover the park.
