TP Rolling Houses. Fun or Mean?

I have a teenage daughter that is wanting to go rolling houses. I have my yard rolled every year and I hate the mess. I make the kids clean it up. Is this something that is still as popular as it seems to be on my trees?

You mean TP = Toilet Paper rolls???

Well, if it is your OWN yard, then it would be no problem at all!

BUT - if one of your kids do that throw some TP rolls over someone else's house, that's Illegal! You would seek to pay $1000 Fine or face 14-day jail sentence! Well, it depends where you live in the area!

I've only seen it done once and the poor girl was cleaning up the whole front yard. I think it's kind of mean, I personally wouldn't do it.

There is a world of difference between a harmless prank, and creating work for other people to have to do or a mes for them to have to clean up.

Back in the day, toilet paper and shaving cream were alll the rage. I was about 12 years old when a few buddies of mine and i were caught spraying cars with shaving cream. Our punishment was that we had to spend All Saints Day, (We had it off because we went to a Catholic school) washing cars at the church parking lot. It sure taught me not to do that again, though lots of other kids did that and got away withit.

The most aweful Halloween prank I ever pulled was when I was about 14 year sole. Those same friends of min and I got a few cans of Nair hair remover, and we went to all the dogs in the neighborhood and removed the fur from all the dog's tails. The next morning people were getting together walking their dogs, and wondering what the H&%$ happened. We got a big laught out ot it, and some of us got bitten a couple of times, but all in all it turned out okay. I wouldn't do it ever again, and it was not a really nice thing to do when I look at it from the point of view of a grown man. however.

When you are younger it really is fun, the consequences are never really considered. I think it also has something to do with partaking in an activity that is illegal and there is the chance of getting caught as you run off into the night away from the police. I have a lot of fond memories of bad things from high school.

However, it really is a pain and had I considered what the clean up was, I might not have ever have done it. Although, we usually did it for revenge and not just a prank.

Where I greq up, TP and shaving cream were the "trick" of 'trick or treat.' If some one refuste to give out candy on Halloween, that person was often targeted to have his yard or tree TPd, and his car or front porch sprayed with shaving cream. Some of the nastier pranksters use to egg the vehicles and houses of people they didn't like, but that also resulted in a punishment of spending an entire weekend or All Saints Day washing cars.

And toilet paper in a tree is virtualy impossible to clean, too. A little dampness is all it takes, and you have a sticky mess on your hands. So all in all, while I got a few laughs back in my teen years, it is a really inconsiderate thing to do. And I did spend a couple of weekends after Halloween wasing cars.

It creates an unwanted task for someone to clean up.

The chemicals in shaving cream will ruin a cars paint job.

Consider that (especially in this economy) a lot of people can't afford 'extras'. They might be currently out of work or elderly and on a fixed income.

Being disappointed that you didn't get a candy bar from one house in no way justifies a very mean or potentially costly action on your part.

I would just stick pins in a voo-doo doll.

I have never pulled pranks on Halloween before. But just reading all your stories makes it tempting. But I know it's wrong. So I won't. (Oh man I want to!)

Like I said, it was something that my friends and I thought was "cute and funny" when we were kids and teenagers, but you are ri ght on about the car's paint job. Shaving cream will mess it up, and a lot of people who are out of work or elderly can not afford to give out candy. But even if they can, it's no reason to vandalize their property or cause them a mess to have to clean up. They don't owe the neighborhood children candy on Halloween. I give it out because I like the tradition. But I'm not obligated to do it.

Where I'm living at the moment however, there are no TOT'ers.

If any managed to make it to the house they deserve a medal, not candy; what with the mountain lions, bob-cats, coyotes (I'm not kidding).

I think we all need to lighten up a bit. Harmless TP-ing shouldn't be tken so seriously. I have a friend who is a police captain. If the house that's TP'd really wants to press charges, they can get the culprits a vandalism ticket. He said that is pretty rare. My kids do it to their friends and must be prepared for retaliation. We've spent many Saturday and Sunday mornings cleaning TP from the trees, bushes, roof, etc. It's just a bit of extra excercise. Just limit it to people that you know have a sense of humor.

There's nothing wrong with a little humor, Rocky. It's the more malicious pranks that most people have a problem with. Also, TP usualy is pretty biodegradable, anyway, so I don't see it as a big deal. The only way it could be a problem for me, is that I am a rather heavy-set person, and most ladders can not support my weight. I'm working with a doctor for bariatric surgery at some time in the near future, but meanwhile, if there's TP in my tree, I have troble getting up there to clean it off. I'm not the only one who would have a problem with something like that. So it's nice to have a sense of humor, but some times practicle jokes can back fire. Shaving cream can also be a problem. As another poster pointed out, it can damage most car's paint jobs, and can do money damage.

So I think limiting it to just people who you know is a good idea.

TP, spraying shaving cream or silly string, and egging are all MEAN! Thank goodness these things have never happened to me, but I can just imagine what a pain it would be to clean up and the potential damage that could result.

I've got to agree with some of the other posts, it is better not to do it. It is always a huge mess to clean up and so it consequently pretty mean.
