About the history of October is the tenth month of the year. Its name comes from the Latin word for eight. October was the eighth month in Roman calendar. The Roman Senate tried to name the month "Antoninus" after a Roman empire, "Faustinus" after his wife, and "Tacticus" after a Roman historican. But the people continued to call it October. From the time of Julius Caesar, October has had 31 days.

Yeah... They might get a jump on October before we do but, they still don't have candy corn!

Cadaverino stood watching on the courthouse square. The dew on the grass glistened silkily in the moonlight. As he looked up, he saw the blade of the tower clock silently move across the 12.
It was done.
The benign harvest-time of September had silently turned into the thrilling promise of October. The northern wind of change, the frontier border of Halloween.
Outside in the cold distance,
a wild cat did growl,
two riders were approaching,
and the wind began to howl.

Yes! A welcome to October.
I have my special pumpkins all ready to go, batteries charged up. What I usually do is, at the BEGINNING of the month I will put batteries in as many lighted pumpkins as I have and put them all in the window. This is to signal that they too should begin the Halloween festivities and that if they want to start early, it's OKAY BY ME.

For the cause of international peace and understanding, I will be sending candy corn and jack-o'-lantern M&M's to
magickbean in England.

I don't get revved up as much as relaxed...I take most of the month off and finsh off the projects I've started and take all the time in the world..do the old Bela serials...get a nap in the sun, catch up on my reading..get my decorations up....I use some dollar store door decorations..at a buck a throw I can OUTLAST the vandals and thiefs through sheer mass of numbers.
Bela goes up in the sliding window, the six foot wide banner sign against the brick wall outside...
It's warm and peacefull and the sunsets take your breath away. You start cooking pizzas you will eat HALLOWEEN night to be frozen and microwaved that night instead of just handing the money over to pizza hut...and you start to repair the props that go out...
Perfect...think I'll start up with THE MUMMY with Boris and the chick who never really did anything else..but she was GOOD in that thing...double back to his Frankenstien work, and then who knows?? But hey, it's October..I have lots of time...
