Do you or your kids have any charming Halloween related stories that you'd like to share? I was at the library today and was trying to find a copy of "Where the Wild Things Are" and I spotted this charming and clever book here:

It's not really about Halloween persay but it is about Pumpkins...and there are Jack O Lanterns in it. :)

I also remembered a glow in the dark story about a young witch who made a journey on the broom and the journey had spooky sites (which of course, for the children's benefit would glow in the dark)

I think this was it..."A very scary witch story"

I also remember this book about a little girl who turned into a black cat and went outside with her own pet cat and yowled outside and stuff like real cats would do...but I can't remember the name of the book or anything. I think it was called "Midnight Cat" But I'm not finding any favorable search results (I think there's some with similar titles but it's not it.) I almost think it was independently published.

I'll have to think about this one, Mau, as nothing is coming to my mind right right now. I did a quick Google search to jog my memory, and I saw a title that rang a bell--The Little Old Lady who Was not Afraid of Anything. I think I might have read that one to my kids years ago.

One of my children's favorites was Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman - about a witch that grows a gigantic pumpkin and gets help from a ghost, a vampire and others because she wants to make a pie but can't get it off of it's vine.

There were a couple of quite charming TV specials about a character named "Scary Godmother," which I think were based on a children's book series. They were set at Halloween, and the youngest, most impressionable little girl stumbled into a haunted house, where she met the Scary Godmother (a witch) and all her monster friends who were throwing a Halloween party. They helped the little girl frighten the neighborhood bully.

I love the Scare Godmother specials. I have both of them on DVD.

You may want to try the original The Nightmare Before Christmas poem by Tim Burton. I don't know if it was initially meant for children, but it's child-friendly and usually sold in the children's section. At least that's where I found it at Barnes and Nobles. I also vaguely remember a children's book called The House That Drac Built.
