You know, Christmas can feel somewhat haunted, too. Dickens' Christmas Carol (IMO the best secular Christmas story) is a ghost story. And anyone who has lived long enough will spend part of the Christmas season remembering loved ones who are no longer here to celebrate it with him/her.

To hijack this thread on a Christmas story for a moment, a great deal about Christmas Carol is about regret. I think that's one of the strongest emotions that runs through it. It was kind of surprising to me that Disney would cover it, since much of the content is adult in the sense that what Ebenezer has gone through is alien to most children. They simply haven't had the life experience to truly comprehend what Ebenezer has gone through. They simply haven't made that many mistakes, and none of them life altering.

I too hope that Halloween will live on long after I'm gone.
It is one of our oldest and (to me) most sacred of holidays.
I cannot fathom a world without it.

Nor can I, and hope never to have to. But at least in my lifetime I will celebrate it as along as I am able. And when I go, there will be a huge pile of Halloween books, movies, and collectibles. I hope there next owners enjoy them and keep the holiday as well.

I would die truly happy knowing that the future of this holiday was secure in the hands of those that truly understood it and loved it.
This is why I think those kindred spirits who have the essence of Halloween itself within them should come together to create their own society and way of life.
Imagine their children, and their children's children, all passing on the knowledge and sacred ways of All Hallow's Eve from one generation to the next.
