I can be very clausterphobic in a situation like that. As for being buried alive, that's all but impossible in today's world, because in most states, they embalm you. So if you weren't dead before they did that, you surely would be after they did it.

Embalming is the practice of draining all the blood from the cataber and replacing it with embalming fluid. You would have absoultely no worries about being burried alive after they did that.

From what I understand, prior to embalming, that happened quite a few times. If some went into a catatonic state, for instance, he or she could be mistaken for dead.

Yes, prior to the widespread use of embalming fluid, I think fear of being buried alive was quite prevalent. My mother said she had an aunt (born in the 1860s) who had a morbid fear of it, and there are lots of stories from the 19th century about stuff like that.

Clausterphobia is probably the main cluprit, all though being buried alive would scare the bejeebers out of any body. I am ho huge fan of close spaces myself, but I would actualy rather have some one shoot me, or embalm me before I'm burried to make sure that I'm dead.

Nevermore, I apologize-- but I'm locking this thread in lieu of splitting the comments. There are just too many stray comments to warrant a split or a single post deletion. If you want to start a new thread to resume discussion, that would be fine. Hopefully we can all be on our best behaviour.

I've taken action to rectify this situation and am leaving this post up, for now, to communicate that something has been done and I have issued formal warning(s) where necessary.

I would like to remind people why we have a "report" button. If you have a query/complaint about a forum member, report the post and ask your question there. A report will be looked at by a forum moderator and/or administrator and appropriate action will be taken from there. This will result in a quicker solution to issues that may arise on the forum.

Thanks and Happy Haunting.
