I'm imagining that you have a very large living room hearth, Mike. Am I right?

Yes, I can't stand fire smoke outside! It smells stink! :? And, we don't have any fireplaces here.... not even one house in our area has a fireplace. But, there are some in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake... not so many people are using it because of the cold weather is not really always there since 12 years.

It's pretty good size. The openingis 3 feet wide. It's not THE biggest, like you would see in one of those old Victorian Mansions, but it's large enough that I can stack 6 logs if I really needed to warm the place up.

Right now, I am in the market for a new grate. The old one has two holes melted in it from general use.

I just remembered. I have a picture that I use as one of my computer desk top backgrounds during the month of Februay. It's not a great photo, but it sort of gives you the idea.

Here is my fireplace. As I said, it's about 3 feet wide, and does a nice job of warming up the house when the snow flys. It's great on Halloween and Christmas, too.

Classic red brick!
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

It is really warm and cozy, especialy during the Winter months, when we get those long cold spells.

I also really love that classic red brick. It reminds me of some of the fire places featured on "dark Shadows."

Autumn is beginning this week, but it's still warm and sunny outside.

This week would be 80 degrees here. I believe the temperature will drop down to 70/60 in November and December too. :?

I think we are supposed to be in the low 90s this week, too. Still, I do feel as if we've turned the corner into fall around here. We are done with triple-digit heat indexes, & the leaves are starting to tinge a little.

We will not see leaves falling after Thanksgiving. :? Believe it or not that we have no snow since 11 years! Looks like Virginia is almost the same as Florida. :o

Coastal VA, maybe. Not the mountains. Not even Richmond, at the fall line. I've lived in both places and seen tons of snow there. I even saw a blizzard in Staunton once. The only time in my life I've seen an honest-to-God white-out.
