I've been a customer since 1997, but I'm a bit disappointed that they seem to be moving away from their specialty (carbon steel swords and replica weaponry) and moving more into costumes and something called "LARP" (which I gather is some version of Dungeons & Dragons where, instead of rolling dice, the players whale on each other with rubber swords).

Oh well. I guess I still have plenty of cold, sharp steel for when the zombie apocalypse comes down.

I dunno, I would like to see LARP with real weapons.

Role playing should be done indoors. Or on stage.

LARP? So there's a name for that? I have seen people doing that up in Nashville the last two weekends. There is a field near a school on the way to the grocery store from my son's campus. We have been up there the last two Sundays and have driven him to get groceries for his dorm room. Anyway, last weekend I saw people in costumes whacking at each other with these Nerf swords, and I asked my son, What is that? And he rolled his eyes and said these people have been doing that since his sophomore year (he's a senior). I don't think they are Vanderbilt kids (my son's school), but they are people you see in the neighborhood, sort of. Yesterday I saw them again, only without the costumes this time.

How is the quality of the blades? I've been looking to get my husband a new sword for his collection but I don't want to get a cheap P.O.S. I'd like it be something really nice with accurate detail work. I saw that someone on the site commented that the blades were not "battle worthy". I was under the impression that most of these were for collection and show purposes. Do people actually fight with these swords?? I guess that's what I get for being a girl. ?

The blade quality varies, but overall is actually pretty good for the money. Windlass swords (made by Windlass Steelcrafts in India, the company that owns Museum Replicas) are know for having "whippy" blades, but it really depends on the individual sword. While all of their swords in my collection have some flexibility in the blade, some are very springy, while others are much more rigid. I think you could definitely fight with any of them, but I won't know for sure until the Zombie Apocalypse begins.... So ask me next week.
