Construction Paper

Post by DemonSlayerMau » Fri Aug 22, 2008 7:56 pm

Anyone ever make their own decorations with good ol' construction paper? I actually did that once in my college dorm room when I was a in college. XD;
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

I love making those construction paper chains that people always make around Christmas time, but for Halloween I make them in orange and black. Back when I was a kid I would make pumpkins, ghosts and Frankensteins. My mom wasn't crazy about buying Halloween decorations, so I usually had to make most of them myself, but I have to say there's something exciting about making your own decorations.
Yesterday Martha Stewart had some neat ideas for witch's broom party favors made out of a stick and some brown lunch bags. You should check it out.

The chains I'm talking about look like this, but red and green for Christmas time and orange and black for Halloween

I do those every year, lol.

A nice little touch that always save a bit of cash.

That's a good idea.
I know paper decorations are a great fun and inexpensive way to decorate for any holiday season.
It also makes each creation unique, and not just something bought from a store.
If you have kids you can get them involved too.
The links thing is a good idea, I didn't think of that!
I like making pumpkins, skulls....and my favorite...black cats! ^.^

This is probably only slightly associated with construction paper but here goes.

I took a .99 cent bag of fake fall leaves and scattered them all over my scanner bed, placed a sheet of colored construction paper over that for the background and scanned it at 600 dpi (any larger and the files is too big and slow to work with).

Viola!...instant fall wallpaper, or gift wrap or...?

I did this with red, yellow, brown and, orange backgrounds.

You can wrap the paper around an inexpensive glass candle holder, secure it together with double-stick tape, trim the excess from the top of the holder and they make great custom candle holders. Remember to always use care around open flames, etc.

I would have attached the large file but a shrunken version is all I could manage to get in here...

Why not paper gravestones?
Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

I tried paper gravestones once (when I was 10), but I put them out too early and they just collapsed cause of the morning dew.

I meant to tape on the walls inside. It looks good if you put them in plain sight. But I put them in places where you can hardly see them. I am not doing that again this year.

Well, what I like to do with construction paper...is make things like paper cats, skulls, bats, witches, pumpkins/jack o lanterns, things like that to put on the wall. Totally unique designs. XD;

Or taped in a window for very effective, inexpensive silhouettes!
