completely off topic but I'm at a loss.......
Okay, like an idiot I asked a female employee at Best Buy if I could use a regular LED TV as a computer monitor and I got "yes of course no problem". I had never done the research on it and TVs are cheaper then true monitors so I figured digital/digital so why not? I was wrong....
Other then the resolution, refresh rate, color control, image sharpness, and other things a true monitor does better then a TV I have another issue I just cant fix and maybe one of ya'll can help me out.
I've googled this with no real fix....
I have a 22" Samsung LED TV that I use. The problem is that when I am on a dark web site or a dark part of a movie the whole TV dims it's self, then when the screen gets brighter the TV brightens its self. I have turned off Dynamic Contrast, and I've turned off Energy saving. Neither have fixed the issue. I've also read that by bringing the brightness level above 55 will stop the auto dim/brightness but it doesnt. I havent always had this issue, when I first got the TV a year ago it was fine, not great but fine, but some setting has changed somewhere to activate this auto dim thing and it's driving me nutts.....
Anyone have any idea on how to kill this feature?

Maybe the problem isn't with the TV but with your video card? You may have axidently changed a setting in your video settings. Maybe set it back to default and adjust it from there.

I actually just upgraded my video card and the problem still exists, I have the TV connected to my PC with an HDMI cable, HDMI out to HDMI in.....NeverMore wrote:

Do you have another source you can connect to the TV, through the HDMI cable? A blu-ray player or something. That could narrow down whether the problem is with the TV or computer. Besides that, can you connect to the video card through DVI or some other type of connection and see if the problem goes away?

I honestly wish they would just put the pots back on the tvs, and let me do all the adjustments. I hate all these 'new fangled' automatic settings that do it all for me, but allways get it wrong. That's why I don't even own a tv at all. For watching tv or videos, I use a DLP projector and silver screen. The adjustments, while they can only be accessed via the remote, can be made manualy, and the projector will work well as both a tv monitor and a computer monitor. It will run NTSC video, HDTV, and VGA. You can also get them reltaively cheap. A 3000 lumin projector can be had fround a little under 400 bucks.

Mike, I seriously want an HD projector for TV and movies, can they be used at TVs and run with a BD player?
well, I finally fixed my issue........
I switched the HDMI cable from HDMI 1 to HDMI/DVI and all is well........I guess HDMI/DVI turns off that auto dimming <deleted> and allows full brightness
Thanks for all the suggestions!

I never heard of a BD player, but most of the projectors will run HDTV, from a DVR, and they will also run NTSC video from an older DVD player or a VCR. I still have a lot of VCR tapes, so I need some retro tech in my system.
The projectors will also run VGA video from any computer. Most projectors also have adjustments that you can make by using the remote control to tweek the aspect ration in accordance with the signal you're getting.

Well in that case, the HDTV output on your Blue Ray play through the HDTV input on your projector, provided the projector has HDTV inputs and capabilities. I use a business or more computer friendly projector for greater lumens, but there are projectors that are more suited for home theatre. If you're into Blue Ray, you may want to look at one of those.
