Going up the hill and hang out with my friends.

Barbeque, drinks, maybe do a little gardening. I never thought that I would miss that but I do a little bit.

Not sure. We've just come through a massive "event" week, with my second son's high school graduation, so we may just stay home and chill.

Congrats to your son.

I won't be doing much. Might go to Pentwater, a small coastal town about an 90 minutes away. My mom and stepdad are in the state park in their motorhome all month.

On the Sunday before Memorial Day I am going to barbecue a Standing Rib Roast, and a couple of my buddies from the old neighborhood are going to come over for dinner and a baseball game. The Chicago White Sox.

Not much of anything, really. It isn't a big holiday too much in our house. We'll probably just chill, too!

They do have a Veterens flag raising in my town for Memorial Day, and I will attend because my brother and uncle are both veterans, but it is one of those "blow off" holidays that really doesn't have any major tradition attached to it. IT's a great excuse to ride my motorcycle or barbecue, both of which I will be doing this weekend.

The Boy Scouts regularly place flags on the graves of the Union dead at Stones River National Battlefield here in Murfreesboro. There have been years when my husband and sons attended. But the cemetery isn't really that large, and so many Scouts show up that they are generally done in 12 minutes.

There will undoubetedly be a veterans ceremony outside the court house in Pontiac Ill, and there will also be one outside the court house in Morris Ill, and I will likely be attending the one in Pontiac, but it will depend on the weather. I also plan to put up the flag, but again, other then flag hanging and veterens ceremonies, Memorial Day is not what I would consider a "Traditional" holiday per se. I do think that we should honor our vets, though.

That's a big part of what I'm going to be doing this weekend myself. We are on flexible Summer hours at the work place, which means that I work four days a week at 10 hours each, and then I'm off every Friday. Tomorrow is Thursday so after I put in my 10 hours I will have 4 days to look forward to.

This Summer is going to be a lazy one for me. I am taking some vacation time and a couple of floater holidays in June, and then I am going to take off two weeks at the end of July.

The LAZY days of Summer. Well after the photo schedule I worked these past two months, I NEED IT!!

Yes, Memorial Day is supposed to be about remembering our fallen military heroes, but for most of us, it is also very much about the kick-off of summer. That is especially true for those of us connected to the school systems. My husband works a half-day on Friday and then is off for the summer, as are all my kids. My older boy, the one in grad school, is off on a six-week European holiday (he lived in Europe his junior year of college, is fluent in German & has numerous friends over there, so he won't be paying hotel fees, at least, not much).

The rest of our family doesn't have $$ for big travel plans, but I am hoping we can reward ourselves with mini-vacations throughout the season. I am eager to explore some of the state parks, for example.

It's going to be really hot here on Saturday (95 degrees), so I am thinking I might hit one of the public pools.
