I only speak some Italian languages, a little bit of Spanish language, not always... mostly English and other Europeans. And also, I do ASL. ASL means American Signing Language for the Deaf, and also, ESL means English Signing Language for the Deaf, too! ;)

Do you speak all of these as fluently as English?

I can say 'Gomen nasai. Watashi wa baka na gaijin.' in Japanese.

I'm fluent only in English, but I have studied a lot of languages. 7 1/2 years of Latin, 5 1/2 years of French, 4 years of German, a smattering of Italian (one semester). I also took one year of Anglo-Saxon or Old English, which is essentially an ancient German dialect (the language of Beowulf). I was mostly a translate & read kind of student, not one who was ever very good at the conversational stuff. I think I was always wanting to be "perfect," and you can't be like that and learn to speak a foreign language. You have to be willing to be a baby for a while.

My older son took up German his freshman year of college, and earlier this year (as a junior) he spent seven months studying at a German univ. All his classes were conducted in German. I was very impressed by that. He is much braver than I ever was.

I am fluent in Spanish...have been since I was a kid. Talk to my kids in Spanish and have several family members that are native Spanish speakers.

I can say a few phrases in a couple languages, but not fluent at all. I understand a lot of french, spanish, german and russian though, just because I've been exposed to people that speak it.

I'm really wanting to learn Scottish Gaelic, but very few people still speak it.

I speak & write Greek, which is what I am! I also speak Spanish.

I would love to learn one of the Native American dialects. I've often wondered why in this country, no one has ever thought to teach/offer that in our public or even private schools. It sounds beautiful to me :D
