I think those risk factors are a little over blown. I've eaten at salad bars on numerous ocassions and never came to any grief. I've also had Tuna salad and sea food from a lot of places and never got sick. The only time I can remember getting sick after eating at a restaurant was last Winter when I ate a hamburger at McDonalds.

... you all must have gringo Taco Bells. Granted, it's not as good as real home-town Mexican fare, but still... I've noticed Taco Bell is better in Arizona than in California or other states.

... worst Mexican food I had was in Hawaii... tomato paste on corn chips with cheese. I about gagged on the meal.... I'm spoilt from the places down here that have a little Mexican woman who comes to your table and makes salsa right in front of you!

Jadewik, I woudl rather eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant ANY DAY then at Taco Bell. Tacl Bell is nothing more then glorified fast food with a little Mexican flavor to it. You said it perfectly. It's Gringo Tacos, and has very little to do with authentic Mexican quisene. I even know some one who manages a Taco Bell. I knew her when we were both kids. I won't say her name or which Taco Bell she manages, but I will say that this perso has not brains enough to fill a sewing thimble for a Barbie Doll. She can't peak one word of Spanish, and the food at her Taco Bell is so over simmered, it has no flavor. I had a Burito Supreme there that was 90% lettuce and refried beans, and about 5% meat with another 5% onions. NO FLAVOR.

Now in Downtown Chicago there's a FABULOUS Mexican restaurant called Lo Haciend Del Sol. Authentic Mexican Chefs and wating staff. Authentic traditional Mexican live entertainment, and the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. BUT, if you plan on dining at Lo Haciend, you better bring $$$$$ and LOTS OF IT. The last time I was there, which was back in 1981, it cost me over 50 bucks for my diner and desert, and that was BEFORE tax and tip.

Don't know about that but J is pronounced like an h, ch is pronounced like 'sh', ll is pronounced like a y. These are common street names around here, see if you can pronounce them...

Jamacha
La Jolla
El Cajon

There are also some inexpensive and very good Mexican Restaurants in my area that I use to frequent before I had my bypass. I may go back to some of them when I can start eating foods that are a little mroe spicy. "La Hacienda Del Sol is a very exclusive down town Chicago reataurant.

The key is who owns and runs the restaurant. If you want authentic Mexican Quisine, the establishment must be owned and operated by a Mexican, and the chefs must also be Mexican, or very familiar with Mexican quisine.

I love Mexican food, but I think my all time favorite quisene is Greek. I love lamb chops, provided they are cooked and marinated properly. Ilove pita bread, Gyros sausage, and there are a number of Greek goodies that make my mouth water inspite of my gastric bypass. One of the local restaurants in my town makes a fabulous Greek style butt steak, marinated to perfection.

Mexican food is a very close 2nd for going out to a restaurant.

As for Italian food, I have found that I can make better spagheti then most resturants make. Pizza is another story, but Ray's Pizza on 111th and Central park, right across from th at farm stand I wrote about ono ther threads made the best pizza I ever ate. Niether Rays or that Farm Stand are there any more.

But I make excelent Pizza and spaghetti
