Nos's Anxiety attack

Post by Nostalgiascape » Sun May 03, 2009 8:00 am

I have sleep apnea. This can kill you through exhaustion. Basically your sinus cavity blocks air when youre trying to breath in your sleep. Everytime. So I cant fall asleep, ever. I have an apointment monday but cant afford it. I hear about CPAP machines or surgery and I cringe at the possible cost. That is a very bad time in my life.

I have depression and when I am in a hard time without depression meds, I have anxiety and I think my self into a terrible hole.

Saturday morning I had difficulty sleeping, shallow breath. It induced anxiety. Then peopel started filling my head full of fears like sleep apnea and everything else making it bigger.

I see my doctor tommorow praying all of these issues will be adressed, treated and behind me.

But right now I feel so doomed. Thats what anxiety does to you.

I know what anxiety is like. I have anxiety problems. Things get better.
Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

How do you get through the anxiety?

I have sleep apnea. Basically your sinus cavity blocks air when youre trying to breath in your sleep. Everytime. So I cant fall asleep, ever. I have an apointment monday but cant afford it. I hear about CPAP machines or surgery and I cringe at the possible cost. That is a very bad time in my life.

I dont know yet that I have sleep apnea. I wrote this the first night I experienced symptoms like it, but I have not been diagnosed yet. Obviously I was scared as hell when I typed it and I still am having anxiety. I eventually fell sleep that night and last night. Averaging 6 hours of sleep per night. I think when I am calm, I sleep. I can survive on that amount of sleep so I think I need to get the anxiety under control before worrying about maybe having sleep apnea. So that I am calm and possitive when I apprioach the sleep apnea phase. My mind is swimming. I need my doctor now more than ever.

Obstructive Sleep Apnia is something that I have struggled with since I was diagnosed with it in 1988. Since then I used and still use a CPAP Machine, and you are darn right about the expense. You also have to lug it every where you go, and while it's not a huge thing, it does take up some space. The good news is that you will have a much better nights sleep after you get use to the machine.

I also have my yuvela removed in the hopes of getting off the CPAP, but it didn't do me any good. Bottom line for me is that my Sleep Apnia is a direct result of the obeasity, just like all my other ailments. The diabetes, the stent inplants I had to have, constant tireness, joint pain, and sleep apnia, all because I'm obease. I am hoping that when I have my Bariatric Surgery, I can be rid of most of these ailments for once and for all.

Depression is often associated wth lack of sleep, so if you can somehow find a way to pay for the CPAP machine, you might be killing two birds with one stone. Also, I don't know if you have the same propensity towards weigh gain as I have, but if so, you may want to look into Bariatric Surgery or at least a good weight loss program. In fact, all of my siblings except for one, are obease, and all but one have Sleep Apnia. Three of my brothers have had Arterial Bypass surgery because of blockages. My older sister and I have stents, One of my brothers and I are both Diabetics, and another of my older brothers is dead due to diabetes and a heart annerism.

All of these miseries are a direct result of the obeasity.

I have a difficult time sleeping, I think a lot of it is due to sinus congestion and allergies though. Although if anyone makes the slightest bit of noise I have a difficult time sleeping plus I've been under stress.
But I too am obese, it's mostly that...erhem...weight on my chest that I have a difficult time with. I'm trying to lose weight, but I just can't resist all those goodies. But I've been going to a gym at least once a week and plan to exercise more with summer coming.

Okay, I had my Doctors Appointment Today....

The Doctor isn't ready to send me the sleep apnea route just yet. His reasons behind this are that I have been getting good rest up until this weekend. He isn't ruling it out. But he believes my breathing and sleeping difficulties are a result of Anxiety. I have depression and anxiety. The anxiety usually only happens when I am facing a very scary time and I am not medicated. But when it starts its hard to stop. I have been taking testosterone replacement therapy. Testosterone can cause anxiety in many people. My Doctor thinks it started it in me. He had me on an antidepressant, but they take at least 10 days to begin working. So for a temporary period of time he also has me on light doses of anti anxiety medication to take only when needed. I believe in about a week I will be fine, but that's then and this is now.

I wish anxiety on no person. No person. It is a horrible unrelenting waking nightmare. Thank God for doctors and medicine.

Well...I have anxiety...and I used to be depressed, but I'm not anymore. I never took pills for my depression and I turned out just fine. I'm not sure I really trust things like pills.
Now, herbal supplements are different because it comes from a natural source rather than having been artificially processed. Feverfew is a good thing to take if you're stressed out, they say St John's wort is good for that too although I think taking that stuff only worsened my anxiety, so it may just vary from person to person.
Why don't you try feverfew instead?

Many people prefer to go herbal. I will say that psychatropic medicines have saved my tail before. As they are now.

Okay guys...phew..scare is over. The Doctor nailed it and this bout of anxiety is passing. Im sorry that I had to show that side of myself but when a person experiences a full blown anxiety attack, no matter how brave or strong a person is...when in anxiety, you are in a constant fear bubble. It is a horrible condition. My Doctor identified it and im on the road back to good. You should have Good ol Nos coming back shortly.

Well that's good to hear Nos. Anxiety is a terrible thing to deal with. Even worse is trying to convince people that you have terrible anxiety and people reply that it's "just normal."
Yeah right. I had a panic attack once because I couldn't handle working in a nursing home. All this pressure to take care of helpless old people and the worry that you're going to screw up, and one tiny slip up can wind you in jail.

Well I am still feeling a mid day patch of a small amount of anxiety, so Im still in the woods. But Ive been through this before and I know that this passes in time. They have me on a temporary regimen of anti anxiety medicine until my regular medicine takes full effect which does take time. Go time go! lol.

But feeling relief..my goodness, is worth all of the gold in the world.

it's like that classic Peanuts strip when Charlie Brown is wide awake at 2AM wondering why scary thoughts always come at 2AM when you're wide awake...

Perhaps when you work through this you will no longer need the meds. One can hope so.
