I know New York has a Fireworks ban.
As far as Virginia goes, Fountain Fireworks are legal at least. Firecrackers, rockets, bombs, anything that shoots up in the air that makes a "boom" are illegal.
Professional displays are probably the only exception, though that's what I grew up with. Just being able to light off the Fountains as opposed to nothing, is exciting for me. The only exciting thing we're allowed to have in New York are sparklers, morning glories and smoke bombs.

here in S E Texas you can get the regular store bought fireworks but nothing good, but that doesnt mean people dont get them and light them off.....it's a huge deal here and there are fireworks going off everywhere both professional shows and people in the streets.

Everything except the fountains and sparklers were illegal here until 18 months ago. While I appreciate the freedom aspect, it has been a nightmare. Of course the law was poorly written and didn't limit them to only around Independence Day. You could hear them non-stop. The state then left it to each county or city to pass their own laws regarding when fireworks could be set off. Obviously that causes confusion if you travel, but at least where I live, we don't hear them as much anymore.
I guess I am just letting you all know to be careful what you wish for.

Re: Job and Career search thread
I can certainly understand and even agree with a fireworks ban in a town where all the buildings are close together because of the fire hazard, but I just want to light off a few ariel display items and some fire crackers.
That's all the more reason why I would like some acoerage.

Some states allow sparklers and type of fireworks that have "no report".
A report is just a fancy way of saying that it won't go BOOM!
Some states allow more explosive class "C" type fireworks but only during a short period around the 4th of July. Here in Georgia, the firecrackers are not allowed although all I need to do is hop in my truck and drive west into Alabama, east into South Carolina or north into Tennessee and I can buy as many as my truck will carry.
Look. Cops were kids once too. Back in the day, we would head up I-75 into Tennessee, load up on anything and everything that would explode and bring them back to Georgia and go nuts on July 4th.
Here in the South we are the most heavily armed Americans in the country. So we tend to look the other way when teenagers and younger adults bring out the bottle rockets, firecrackers and M-60s when the 4th rolls around.
BUT!
DONT!
OVER DO IT!
BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS!
MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE THERE!
KEEP A BUCKET OF WATER NEARBY FOR SAFETY SAKE!
SHOOT THEM OFF AT DARK, NOT AT MIDNIGHT!
KEEP THE YOUNGER KIDS SUPERVISED!
NO ALCOHOL!
NO STUPID GAMES LIKE SHOOTING BOTTLE ROCKETS AND ROMAN CANDLES AT EACH OTHER!
IF THE COPS COME! SHUT UP AND LET THEM TALK! IF THEY SAY LEAVE! THEN LEAVE!
We have more important things to due on the 4th of July than dealing with kids. Think about that and behave accordingly.

That's very good advice, Kolchak.
