They would need our help because fo the reasons Adrien pointe out, and because it's plausable that something like a star ship would require a lot of resources, and we could improve our own situation through what we learn from them.

I, for one, would love to see what another planet has to offer in terms of inported goods, especialy machinery or electronics. Just imagine a palm top with more computing power t hen the Kraig Super Computer.
