United Airlines Song Background (short version)
In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no†to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

Re: United Airlines Breaks Guitars: Music Video!
I had a simular experience with Pan Am back in the 80s before they went out of business. They screwed up my flight, screwed up my reroute, lost one of my suitcases, and DESTROYED a very expensive movie camera that I had back then. A 16mm Bolex that I paid 10 grand for. I got my lost suitcase delivered by UPS 10 days after I got home from that trip.
That's not the only rotten experience I had with comercial flying. The very last time I flew some place on a comercial airline was in the Fall of 1991. It was Midway Airlines. I flew Midway down to Florida, and then they filed for bankruptcy and left all of us stranted in Florida. It was still a nice vacation, but the thoughts were still in my head, and the quesitons were still raised: Will I get another flight home? Am I going to have to cut my vacation short? Will I be late getting back to work? Am I going to have to spend 36 plus hours on a bus or in the back seat of a rental vehicle?
American Airlines decided to honor our tickets, but not without a 6 hour lay-over in Atlantis. At least I didn't have to cut my vacation short, and I was back to work on the day I was supposed to be back.
I vowed I would never fly anyplace after that experience. From now on, if there's a road to get me to where I want to go, I take the motorcycle or car. I will never fly again unless it's an absolute necessity.

This is a good story. I love seeing how one person can stand up against a major company. I'll definitely pass this on.

[color=#FF80Like I said, I pretty much have sworn off comercial flying, unless I have to go to a funeral, or cross an ocean. I figure that the less I have to depend on others to get me from one place to another, the less likely some one will be able to ruin my vacation by breaking something valuable in my luggage, losing my luggage, or just beina obnoxious.
Unfortunately, today's airlines industry is the worst it ever was, and with all the beefed up security due to the 9/11 attacks, its likely it will never get any better. Heaven forbid I should ever have to use their services again.

Re: United Airlines Breaks Guitars: Music Video!
I can't wait for Song #3 to be posted. I really hope those YouTube videos reach a lot of people, too. I was never conpensated for my Bolex by Pam Am.
Like I said, I do all of my traveling by motorcycle 1st choice, Car 2nd choice, or by train 3rd choice or if I'm feeling ling a train ride. I'm really sorry, but I REFUSE to do business with an industry who treats their customers so poorly. Now I might have to go to a funeral in Florida some day, or I may want to cross an ocean. But for the most part, when I go in vacation, I hit the road. When the Airlines decide to start treating their customers better, maybe I'll consider them, but I doubt that's going to happen any time soon.
Besides that, getting through airport security takes for ever. You spend so much time waiting in line any more, flying is no longer the most convenient way to get from one place to another. In October of 04, we did a family trip down to Disney World in Orlando. I went by car (my bike needed new tires and ther wasn't enough time) and the rest of the family flew. They were held up by security, flight delays, over booking, and just about every other thing that could go wrong did. I arrived in Florida a little bit before they did. I was well rested and in a great mood, they were angry, and frustrated and tired.
I don't know about you, but I would rather spend 36 hours driving then 2 h urs standing in line.
