Recently during the middle of the night, my wife has claimed to look outside sometimes and often see a man in black who would be standing on our street, right under a street light 4 houses down. She's seen him many times and everytime she attempts to wake me up and by the time I get my sleepy butt out of bed, the man is no longer there. Well last night she saw him again and managed to wake me up fast enough and I was able to see him. I didn't think much of it rather than a person who was up to no good. So I opened the window blinds and watched him atleast 5 minutes. My wife went to check on our dog, came back and asked me if he was still there. I turned my head, replied Yes, turned back and he wasn't. After he disappeared, I thought maybe he just stopped to phone someone or maybe he had a little bit to drink.
Morning came and I went to wash my car. My neighbour came out and we started talking about guy stuff, I brought up the conversation about this mysertious person standing on our street in the middle of the night. My neighbour started telling me the story of George Cortord, I think that's how his last name is spelt. Appearently, he was a man who back in 1952 was a criminal and lived on our street. He was blamed for murder and theft. He lived alone and was a grumpy person. He hated everybody and didn't want anything to do with anyone. He was shot by police by accident on his front lawn in April 1952. He was killed. Through out the years, his house was falling apart and eventually got torn town. Our neighbours next door claim he haunts the street because his house was destroyed. Our neighbours across the street claim he haunts the street searching the cops who killed him.
Me and my wife moved here over a year ago. This was the first time we had any clue our street was haunted. Story has it, George Cortord haunts the street in the middle of the night during the Summer. Only the Summer. People have never seen him otherwise. And he stands still under the same street lamp. It's a bit spooky knowing the story and the fact he haunts the street. Everyone on the street seems to be fine with it. It doesn't bother anyone, they think of George as another neighbour.

Re: Cortord Ghost
Absolutely try and snap a picture of him next time you see him. That story is just too creepy. I find the image of a mysterious stranger standing motionless on the sidewalk twice as eerie as some noisy old poltergeist. Great story and, agreed, sort of sad.
