I wondered, with all the discussion about great horror films for the October season, why many modern movies are not mentioned.
Underworld
Van Helsing
Cabin Fever
The Mummy (1999)
Queen of the Damned
... just to name a few. I'd like to hear opinions about these and any other modern horror fare, as to why or why not they are good Halloween movies.

hmmmm, I think all are very good movies to watch. In fact I recomend thems! They were directed andn written PURRRfectly.

Although I do enjoy many of the movies listed, I would not categorize them in the horror genre; I see them more as action or drama depending on the specific movie mentioned. However, there are several modern horror movies that I do enjoy, such as Blair Witch Project and Scream.

With the exception of "Cabin Fever", I enjoyed (and own) all of the films mentioned.
Their perfectly fine for Halloween or any other day you want yo watch horror films

Of course, I can only respond about the movies that I've actually seen.
Van Helsing & The Mummy, seem to be more action adventure, and not really "Horror"
in my eyes. These are movies that I actually enjoy. I also enjoy a few others, like
The Extraordinary League of Gentlemen and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow...
just to name a few more. A good movie can leave a LOT of the blood out and still be good.
I don't "do" horror personally. Horror is more like a hack 'em up - stack 'em up,
blood and gore sort of thing. Which is probably why I don't reply to the Horror Threads,
because I just don't care for that sort of thing.
It's just my personal opinion, but I don't think gore-fest flicks are rightly a Halloween
type of movie genere. If you go through the history of Halloween, it's supposed to be about
evil spirits, ghosts, evil witches, demons, the possessed, monsters and the like.
I don't push my ideals onto anyone. Mostly because I don't want people trying to convince
me against my better judgement. But I'm perfectly happy to let others go their own "way"
when it comes down to what's acceptable and what's not. Because it's just one opinion
against another.
I'll be a werewolf, but that doesn't mean I have to be a "bloody" werewolf.
