The Holiday is a fave of mine and also While You Were Sleeping.
And can't forget Home Alone! It's not in the romantic genre but the holiday one

Oh Yes! Home Alone 1 & 2 are on our 'Christmas Movie List' every year. Both my wife & I have been watching them since we were kids! Others on the list are:
'Elf'
'The Nightmare Before Christmas'
'Deck the Halls'
Christmas with the Kranks'
'Santa Clause the Movie'
'Black Christmas'
'The Grinch'
'Miracle on 34th Street'
'Bad Santa'
'Fred Clause'
There are others, however I can't remember them all & i'm not near my DVD collection at this moment in time!

My favorite Christmas movie is the George C.Scott version of Christmas Carol, released in 1984. I know there have been many, many versions, and everyone has a favorite. That one is mine.

mine is the "new" Jim Carry animated movie, it's done really well and looks amazing, especially in 3D on the IMAX screen....I'm going to buy it this year on BD when I see it.Murfreesboro wrote:My favorite Christmas movie is the George C.Scott version of Christmas Carol, released in 1984. Re: Whatcha watchin right now?
Oh, I haven't seen that one. Doesn't he play (all) (many) parts in it?
The Patrick Stewart one from back in the '90s is interesting. I prefer Scott's interpretation, but Stewart looks the part perhaps more than Scott does, and he's English. Also, I think Joel Grey's Ghost of Christmas Past in the Stewart version is the absolute best portrayal of that character ever on film. I am very, very familiar with the original novella, re-reading it almost every year of my life since I was 15 (seriously, I can recite passages). Anyway, The Ghost of Christmas Past is described in a highly surreal way, so he is very difficult to cast or envision. Most productions don't even try. But Joel Grey pretty much nails it, I think.
I think Edward Woodward's Ghost of Christmas Present in the George C. Scott version is the best I've ever seen. He gets the sarcasm of that ghost perfectly. The scenes between him & Scott just crackle.
What I love about Scott's interpretation is that he gets Scrooge's intelligence. Scrooge is unlikeable in the beginning of the book, but he is very quick-witted. Scott gets that about him. He humanizes him better than any other actor I have ever seen in that role.

Re: Whatcha watchin right now?
yeah I think he did 3 or 4 voices for it but it isnt typical Jim Carry, it's really close to the book as I understand it and it's done really classy
